Definitely will recommend. It is amazing place of wooden carvings and history of Banska Stiavnica. Exhibition is in small room but packed with miniatures and carving figures. Each has the story to tell. Small entry fees but absolutely worthy.

Dont miss if you are in the area, its fascinating and beautiful and quirky. Also cheap to visit. A 'ojne of its kind' creation.

An amazing animated wooden sculpture, featuring elements of the town such as the Calvery, and numerous animated old mining scenes (like the old mining illustrations Walt Disney based his 7 dwarfs on). Very cheap entrance fee, while there were a lot of wooden figures and carvings to purchase, sadly there were no mining figures !

It's a small gem. If you love christmas (markets) this is definately good to see! It is all made of wood and the whole scene has turning puppets and trains and you see the whole town made in wood.
Also what is nice is that there are some stories why Banska Stiavnica is nice and some folk myths from the town.
So for just a small entrance fee I would say go here!

A fabulous work. The whole city made of wood, including the mines, and everything is in motion. Not only for children, but adults, too. You may keep watching it for long...

We dropped in to see the Bethlehem exhibit out of curiosity and thought it was ok. It's €1.50 per person and it's quite a big sculpture of Banska Stiavnica that is very detailed. I don't think you could really spend more than 15 minutes there though, unless you have kids that are really keen. Even some kids there weren't very interested.

Good place to learn something about Slovak traditions around Banska Stiavnica connected with wood carving. You can buy some wooden souvenirs there as well.

I would not go to Banska Stiavnica just to visit this Bethlehem but once you are there it would be shame not to pay €1.50 entrance fee and have a peek. Devil is in the detail and Bethlehem has thousands of them. You need maximum 15 minutes for the whole visit. If lady in the Information center did not mention it to me I would have never known it exists.

This exquisitely hand-carved collection of scenes has at its centrepiece the Nativity but blends in scenes from local folk history. The attention to detail is incredible and a lot of the characters in the scenes rotate round as if clockwork. There is even a wooden train. The 'Bethlehem' os located inside a shop in an unprepossessing courtyard and the only clue it is there are the larger carved figures outside. To watch the Bethlehem costs a nominal one euro 50. It's open from 10am until 5pm most days and is well worth climbing up from the town centre for - or coming down from the castle. It is located about 3/4 of the way up on the left side of the hill.

A very detailed, handcarved display of Banska Stiavnica meets Bethlehem. And many, many moving parts. Very interesting to see all the little scenes of days of old of Slovakia. We spent about 15 minutes there. Tour is only 1.5 euros. A little difficult to find this place, tucked in a courtyard off the main street. A nice gift shop is there too.
