Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

really unusual place to visit. sadly it was closed when we were here in april but the walk here alone was very good. it isn't actually as much as it looks like it is from the photos - it is very doable if you take it slow. enjoy :)

Such a beautiful place! It was a very pleasant walk up the hill. The whole cultural heritage is being renovated. Well done. Absolutely worth visiting.

This sign is a must see in Banska Stiavnica. A car can be parked for free at a Calvary infopoint and the way up is doable for almost anyone. I suggest snrakers or sth closed for a footware since small loose rock can make your way up not so smooth. In the end, the view is spectacular : calm nature, the panoramatic overview on the whole town, "Beliansky Tajch" mine pond nearby and, most of all, the vibe of the spiritual origin!

The Calvary of Banska Stiavnica is one of the most beautiful Baroque calvaries. It can be seen from everywhere because it stands at the top of the Scharfenberg (Sharp) Hill above the town. It was built 1744-1751. It's renovated and it's a must-see attraction even for not religious people, too. It consists of 19 chapels, 2 churches, the Holy Stairs and sculpture of The Virgin Mary of Seven Sorrows under the cross and in additional it's the most impressive view to this town and area. It's very popular, so we climbed up there. It's not very hard but you need good walking shoes. It's worth it, don't miss it!

Beautifully reconstructed place over Banska Stiavnica. Can be nice during the day or evening as it is lighted. Walk can take 15 -20min. Place is very photogenic in any season.

Obviously this is place of religion interest, but anyone will enjoy it. It is nice walk and fantastic view of nature and surrounding. Even it is up the hill, there are a stops and most of the people can be able to do it. Won't recommend for wheelchair or people with walking disability. It is uneven surface so good walking shoes are must.

We were so lucky to come here on a beautiful cloudless Sunday and find an outdoor mass being conducted complete with a magnificent choir. There is a wonderful view of the town below and farms and forests. We had heard that the place was in great disrepair but clearly most of the renovation has been accomplished. The pathways leading up both sides of the hill to the crucifixion station are easy to negotiate with improved surfaces and fine new handrails. Calvaria is a very special place.

This is certainly a place to visit if you are in the area.
We visited it in 2019 and some part was still in renovation.
From the summit you have an extraordinary view on Banska Stiavnica
