This Castle has an other name, too: Girl Castle. It can be seen from everywhere in the town because it lies on a hill. It was built between 1554-1571 against the Turkish attacks. It belongs several ghost- and witch-legends. It has 4 corner towers and 24 cannons. This Renaissance Castle has a rich history, and some important functions: eg.: clocktower, belltower etc. Today it's a museum. You can see lots of flags and arms there. The view is breathtaking, you can see the whole town.

This structure was built during the period of Turkish danger in years 1564-1571 (on a hill called Frauenberg) as a watch tower and signal tower. It is a massive 6-level edifice with four smaller side towers. Its unique silhouette can easily be spotted from several locations.

Unfortunately, our group of 22 did not have time for a tour. Nevertheless, my spouse and I enjoyed the view we had of it from our hotel room!

The castle is a basic defensive fortress so there is not much to see architecture wise.

However, the exhibition about the ottoman war is very educative and well made.

Unfortunately not to much information about the castle itself, but the exhibition about the defense against the Turks is interesting to see.
And if it were only for the views you should already see this place. The panorama view over Banská Stiavnica is amazing!

First you need to figure out how the parking works.
Castle arhitectually different as you would expect from a castle.
No dogs allowed inside and from the outside, if you walk around it, nothing special

It is neither impressive nor interesting, however it nicely overlooks the city from the hill opposite to old castle. More added value gave us the walk itself as we could visit the city and feel the ambience.

Three-in-one attraction:
1. Historic exhibition, primarily concerning the defensive role of the castle and its importance in wars against the Turks.
2. Offers a good view over the historic city.
3. A good looking structure to take pictures of.

Castle museum offers a historical overview of the long and painful period of wars with Otoman empire. It is interesting to see how local people prepared themselves to be ready for potential Turkish attacks. It shows also the bloody and cruel way of fighting in that times. Important to be visited to understand the history and present.

Untypical building with an interesting history on the hill opposite the Old Castle. It worst to tour all floors with a transparent history of the conquest of Slovakia from Turks and a variety of weapons and objects from that period. From the top floor spectacular view on the city.
Wheelchair accessible only to steep stairs to the entry.
