This Castle has an other name, too: Girl Castle. It can be seen from everywhere in the town because it lies on a hill. It was built between 1554-1571 against the Turkish attacks. It belongs several ghost- and witch-legends. It has 4 corner towers and 24 cannons. This Renaissance Castle has a rich history, and some important functions: eg.: clocktower, belltower etc. Today it's a museum. You can see lots of flags and arms there. The view is breathtaking, you can see the whole town.

Having visited the town's Old Castle and found it average, the New Castle was a nice surprise and much more interesting. Be warned, it's a steep hike from the town to reach it, but don't let that put you off. It's just 2 euro admission, and inside there are heaps of really interesting exhibits about the castle and the town's quite turbulent history. I found the displays of weapons most interesting, and everything is nicely laid-out and easy to follow, with plenty of space to move around. And as with the Old Castle, there are some hugely impressive views to be had. 2 euro well spent!

First you need to figure out how the parking works.
Castle arhitectually different as you would expect from a castle.
No dogs allowed inside and from the outside, if you walk around it, nothing special

The New Castle exhibited information and historical artefacts about the invasion of the Turks to Slovakia and the Hungarian Empire. It was surprisingly extensive with some very interesting historical facts, we've read almost everything. The view from the top floor of the museum on the town is great as well. Overall we were positively surprised. The entrance fee was just 2 euros so well worth it.

It is located on top of the hill so it is a bit of a walk. There are some nice buildings on the way and the walk is quite pleasant. Watch out for cars in narrow streets.
The exhibition shows Slovak fight against Turkish invasion. It is very informative and there are a lot of interesting exhibits.
We visited quite early in the morning and there were not many people. There was a large group on our departure.

It has an average mining exhibition (not much to tell about it), but you've got to pay the full price even if you were only interested in the lookout tower.

If you think you have time only for one castle visit, you are mistaken. Go to the Old Castle first (much more interesting) and when finished, you can stop over the New Castle, which has much less to offer apart from nice views. Actually the New Castle looks better from the distance, as it is nicely located on the top of the hill. The white square tower surrounded by four bastions is visible from almost everywhere in the city.

This structure was built during the period of Turkish danger in years 1564-1571 (on a hill called Frauenberg) as a watch tower and signal tower. It is a massive 6-level edifice with four smaller side towers. Its unique silhouette can easily be spotted from several locations.

Unfortunately, our group of 22 did not have time for a tour. Nevertheless, my spouse and I enjoyed the view we had of it from our hotel room!

The castle is a basic defensive fortress so there is not much to see architecture wise.

However, the exhibition about the ottoman war is very educative and well made.
