About
The late-Gothic St. Catherine church was built in 1443-91. Locals call it The Slovak Church because as early as in 1658 masses were led in Slovak language here. In a under-the-ground crypt city mayors and rich burgers were buried. Original gothic furnishing, a cross from the 15th century, late-Gothic Virgin Mary sculpture a stony baptismal font and an organ from the late 18th century survived ages.

It had been built from the year cca 1450, finished in 1490 and was consecrated in 1500 A.D. There are nice stained glass windows and lot of side chapels. It is a late Gothic temple in the heart of Banská Štiavnica. It is one of "must see" places in the town.

Gothic church with a wonderful architecture. Great setting in the historic cramped streets of Banská Štiavnica.

This is a church used still for services but mainly it is visited by tourists. Gothic architecture together with renewed frescas brings you to atmosphere of 16 century. This place and the Holy trinity square looks same like on the pictures available in the nearby bookstore.

Church is located very close to the information centre and Holy Trinity Square as well. Guided visit with very friendly staff, they gave us interesting information. Shame that it isn´t possible to go up church tower

We have lived in Hungary for four-and-a-half years now and seen some amazing churches (St Stephen's Basilica in Budapest being THE best) so St Catherine's did not 'amaze' but it is definitely worth a look.
