Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Each year I am visiting Slovakia and also Banská Štiavnica. This little town has a very special energy. I also like to see what have been rebuilt, what is new.
Some really nice places having coffee or
beer (Erb).
A place each tourist have to visit.

Stopped in here during our visit to learn more about the museums to visit and activities to do while in town.
The gentleman working on October 3 was very helpful, spoke excellent English, and had lots of information for us on both the traditional sights to see as well as hiking information that really sounded interesting. Too bad it rained the next day or we would have done one of the hikes.
Word to future visitors: the museums are closed on Monday (the mining museum is open Monday 10am-2pm) so don't expect to see much.
Parking is for a fee everywhere you go (even the mining museum) so make sure you pay the parking attendant wherever you go or your car will get a boot.

I've phoned to Tourist Information centre prior to our arrival in Banska Stiavnica to find some info - about transportation, taxi, hotels, museum...
The man on the phone was very rude. Instead of greetings I got questions like who I'm and where I'm from... Fine, maybe he tried to adjust his information to my location and accent. Though even I spoke perfect Slovak. I was surprise - so he rudely told me off that I shouldn't and it's time to calm down.. From what? I didn't say one word or make a sound... So how did he know my feelings or position? He just assumed that if I'm quiet, something is wrong?
I've tried to be calm and nicely ask for information. He wasn't very knowledgeable and referred me to internet - "I should do some research...". Excuse me? What? Like I didn't know?
At the end he said that our conversation is "interesting" and he would like to know how old I'm...
Again, what? It is not his business... He is actually breaking law about personal information. I'm not little child.
This was the worst customer services ever...
Don't bother to phone. Maybe don't bother to visit. These people in this are forgot they need tourism to survive...

Dear Madam. Your description of the situation, when you called in the Information Center in B. Štiavnica, is completely inaccurate and biased. And extremely incorrect. Your phone from England was very hard to hear and had long pauses between words. That's why I asked who I was talking to. It wasn't clear at first what you want, given the long pauses between words. I have answered all the questions very precisely, describing how to get to the city from the train station, how much you pay for a taxi, where is the hotel Bristol, I described his level. I even told you where there is a shop where you can buy groceries. I asked about your age because I thought I was talking to a baby. So your Slovak language and accent has impressed me this way. I no referred you to the Internet at all. That's not my style of work at all.
Two of my colleagues heard my phone call and can confirm that I was by no means rude. There was no reason for it. I have no idea why you say so about me. No one has told me in years of work that I am rude. On the contrary, I only receive positive reviews of my approach to people. I can send you dozens of positive responses to my work.
You didn't express any dissatisfaction during the interview, I don't know why you're doing it right now. I didn't insult you. I also met your detailed requirements, such as where you can buy a baguette if you are hungry during your stay in the city. I even invited you to the information center if you had any problems. For all these facts, I strongly ask you to consider your words and not to spread lies.

If I am remembering it correctly, there is an old mine shaft at the back of this information center (or maybe it is right next door). Anyway, it is a horizontal shaft, so you can walk right in and get a feel for what it was like back in the hey day of mining in Banská Štiavnica.

Hello,
I am going to Bratislava in June and want to go to Banska Stiavnica by public transport, can you please tell me where I can get the bus. Also the price, how long does the journey take and how regular are the buses. We want to go walking for the day in the mountain.
Thank you.

I can't answer your question properly because we arrived by train. Then took taxi to hotel (very cheap - 1.50 euro). So to Banska Stiavnica you can get from Zvolen through Hronska Dubrava by train. Journey is about half hour. To Zvolen you can get by train from Bratislava (about 3 and half hours - around 20 euros). I know you can go to Zvolen train station from Banska Stiavnica by bus for 2 euros. Please, check website cp.sk - all the info about traveling in Slovakia.
