About
The main town square was formed at the beginning of the 16th century and today it is the core of the town. The Town Hall and the St. Catherine church, rich burgers palaces on the square sides and the plague column with of the Holy Trinity statuary form one of the city´s architectural highlights.

Lovely place but nothing unique
Jul 2020
After the quarantine we visited two "mining towns": Kremnica and Banska Stiavnica last week. Both are nice historic places, we loved them. In the centre of this town you can found the Main square with the Holy Trinity Column which was built after the great plague epidemic (1710-11). This square was the most important forum of the town in the past. Nowadays there are some restaurants and bars around and you can taste the good Slovak beer or wine.

Nothing Special--Just Another Tiny Square
Sep 2019
This small, cobbled area, the town's main square, is dominated by the Baroque sandstone Holy Trinity (Plague) Column, which was built in gratitude for the retreat of the plague epidemic in years 1710-1711. The square is lined with a few elaborate Gothic and Renaissance burgher houses. On the south side is the 15th century church of St. Catherine. Located here also is the mineralogical museum and Marina's House, which houses the longest love poem in the world.

Although Banska Stiavnica and its surroundings were included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, there is nothing especially remarkable about this square. My spouse and I were only here because our tour stopped in town for the night. Otherwise, I would definitely not go out of my way to visit the Silver City.

Beautiful

Beautiful centrum of the town. Especially when good weather, just to sit and relax. You can continue up the street and you will appear in the forest and in 15min by beautiful blue water lake Velka Vodarenska.

Nice stop over, but not so different from other places
Sep 2019
Banksa Stiavnica is a lovely historic town. A great way to spend an hour or two walking as a stopover between Bratislava and the High Tatras. I wouldn't make it a destination, you can get much of the same history in other places.

The main square is relatively small but looks pretty with different old historical buildings around. Surprisingly less tourists in the holiday peak season.

Unique square with beautiful buildings, old historical column. There is a lot of history here and quite quick way to get to the old castle from here.

Very steep square
Sep 2018 • Family
We headed to the square when we first arrived in Banska Stiavnica because you can usually get the feel of a town in its main square. This one is surprisingly steep, like the rest of the town, and has a few restaurants around it. You can also visit the mineral exhibition here and it's close to the old castle. It's worth a visit but very small compared to most old town centres.

Historic place
May 2018 • Couples
I love historic places and this square is just one of that kind in the city. Also it's a perfect parking spot if you want to visit the Old Castle.
