Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful centrum of the town. Especially when good weather, just to sit and relax. You can continue up the street and you will appear in the forest and in 15min by beautiful blue water lake Velka Vodarenska.

Banksa Stiavnica is a lovely historic town. A great way to spend an hour or two walking as a stopover between Bratislava and the High Tatras. I wouldn't make it a destination, you can get much of the same history in other places.

Probably better known as Holy Trinity square formed around 15th century amongst the burgher houses in the midlle of the steep town square. Beautifully designed and a memrial to those lost in the town.

It is worthy to come here, take a pictures, drink a coffee... nice cosy location.
Strongly recommended places:
- Gavalier Café (in upper part of the square, far the best selection of home-made desserts and extraordinary coffe)
- antiquarian bookshop "Antivariatik" - many old books about Banská Štiavnica (not only in Slovak)
- visitor centre - all necessary information about tourist offer in the Banská Štiavnica region
- art shop "Diela a dielka slovenských výtvarníkov" (just next to the Plague Column) - really wide offer of works of art and souvenirs

The only drawback of the place is many of cars parking there, but it is anyway one of the most charming locations in the town.

We felt like this entire town was a bit overrated. The old streets and squares are nice, but many central European cities have much nicer streets and squares.

A stunning plague column monument in the center of this square, surrounded by restaurants, great art shops and physically beautiful, restored buildings. The climb up the hill can be a real bear, especially in the winter!

The square is rather small, but well renovated with a few attractions, like the key Holy Trinity monument. A church, town hall and entry to the nearby mines are just a few attraction to be visited on the square. There aren't many cafe/restaurants on the square, so it's not a lively place.

It is really nice at night.

Center and the most beautiful place in Banska Stiavnica. The square is lined by splended old houses. In the middle there is a plague column, Holy Trinity Column, built out of gratiude for the end of the plague which had troubled the town from 1710 to 1711. At the bottom, the sare is limited by the Town Hall and the Church of St. Catherine. Very calm, pleasant place, have a cup of coffee there.
