A very interesting place
Jun 2020
This place was very interesting and should be on every visitors list. The UXO situation in Laos is still very serious, with people killed or maimed quite often. It is a story the world should hear!

after a while numbness sets in
Feb 2020 • Friends
while I applaud all the work done by this and others to remove landmines there is a point where one becomes numb about the story
the centre tells the story well but it was the third or fourth time that day we heard about the damage done
it was almost as if we had personally involved- and I personally oposed the Second IndoChina war

Must-visit ...
Dec 2019
I would consider this a must-visit site if ever you are in Phonsavan to better understand the place in particular, and Laos in general. Some pretty and meaningful souvenirs to be ourchased here as well.

Eye opening... Please visit... Learn

This museum opens your eyes to what the USA did to Laos during the American War in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. The USA dropped millions of cluster bombs on Laos and the region between 1964 - 1973. There are close to a million mines and bombs still to be destroyed. Good displays, movies and education.

There’s a 23 minute video you must watch . Had not realised how much damage the USA had inflicted on Laos and done little or nothing to help clear the mess of unexploded bombs away from the countryside .
It a real eye opener and a must to see

Spend the time to watch the movie on what and how the MAG UXO do to clear landmines and unexploded bombs. I have a new found respect for the MAG.

Post war impact with sad stories
Jul 2019 • Couples
This exhibition is run by the volunteer organisations with short film showing the impact of Vietnam war into the region of Phonsavan (including the Plain of Jars). Phonsavan is one the most heavily bombed areas in the world by the US military due to the reason that the region was part of Ho Chi Minh Trail (which is a network built as supply of troops and materials) during the Vietnam war. Millions of bombs remain active and unexploded, also known as Unexploded Ordnance (UXO). Hence, many local farmers and children were the victims out of the explosion of of UXO which affected their lives and livelihoods ability. The effort to clear these UXO is still on-going, so that the locals can lead a normal life with the threats of UXO. Very informative volunteer centre with impactful lessons learnt regarding the post war effect.

Must see!
Sep 2019
Stop here before you go to the Plain of Jars. My guide, Tey Lassada, accredited National Tourist Guide & certified UNESCO translator, told me stories of the Secret War, which I had NEVER heard of, growing up in the USA during the Vietnam War. It wasn’t taught in school or even mentioned at all! Tey encouraged me to watch the films at the centre to learn about the atrocities committed during the war years, to educate myself regarding the suffering of innocent Laotian civilians caught in the crossfire of war. As an American, not once did I feel anger or bitterness from the Lao, only a firm resolve to clean up the leftovers of a terrible war and get back on track to living a peaceful life. Tey Lassada is a wonderful guide who will help you understand the complicated story of life in Laos, yesterday and today. You can reach him at lasdadatey@gmail.com or call +85620 22946979, or catch up with him on Facebook, Tey Lassada.

Heart breaking...
Jul 2019 • Couples
Having been a part of the Secret War my heart was broken by what I learned. This put a whole new perspective on what was done to Laos and is still being done even today. Well worth the time, even though you might feel some pain.
