I suspect most people enter Yosemite from the west and never see the beauty that one can see by just heading towards Lee Vining. In fact, if you are planning on visiting Yosemite from Reno, take the 395 down to Mono Lake instead of crossing over into Gold Country and working your way around to the west entrance. If you... Drive into the Park from the east and be sure to stop at, and hike up Lembert and Pothole Domes. These polished granite monoliths are marvels of nature . A journey to the top of each provides spectacular views of this less explored, and more accessible side of the Park. The hikes here can be as long or as short... More

We nearly missed out this drive as they closed the road due to snow. This was 18th October which is quite early for it to be closed, but luckily the road re-opened after 14:00. We were driving from Tuolumne Grove to Death Valley via Lee Vining and Mono Lake. Even better, we had the road to ourselves and we saw... More

This39 mile scenic highway is a great way to start off a visit to Yosemite. It is a bit windy here and there, but there are turnouts for pictures and to allow the drive to participate. The Road passes thru Tuolumne Meadows and White Wolf. In the morning spotting deer is fairly easy.

It is so gorgeous here. It's difficult to give anything a bad review. Give yourself PLENTY of time to make this drive because you are going to want to stop around every bend.

If you have limited time do this more towards the bottom but if you have time to check it out go for it. We drove in from the east and went straight across seeing everything we could. We went back into the park (your park fee buys you several days) and went south towards the valley and then up to... More

Driving from Lee Vining on Tioga Pass through Yosemite is an amazing journey, so much to stop off and see along the way. Make sure you allow a full day if you're just driving through with a few stops

It is stunning up in the Pass! However if you are not used to the altitude, then be careful! We stay up in the meadow campground for one night but didn't like it much. However this is a beautiful drive not to be missed if you're in the area.

Starts in the parking area just behind the ranger station at the top of the Tioga Pass at 10,000 ft. As soon as you start the 500 ft elevation climb up to the ridge you notice the impact on your breathing especially if you normally live at sea level! Takes an hour or so to reach the crest before dropping... More

I drove to Death Valley on this road. Great scenery and amazing views. What I appreciated was that while everything around the valley and El Capitan was crowded with people, on this drive there were lakes that weren't crowded and were more in their natural element. You felt like you were one of only a few that was enjoying it,... More
