My husband and I came to Yosemite while on an anniversary trip. We didn’t want to do the whole hike up to the top of the falls since neither of us felt superb and it’s considered a strenuous hike so we only went to the Columbia Rock lookout point and it was definitely worth the trek that seemed never ending. Those switchbacks can mess with you!
The lookout was perfect because Glacier Point was inaccessible at the time without doing a super long hike. We were able to see a lot of the valley and and better view of Half Dome.

I highly recommend starting early in the morning = less people and less sun.
We burn easily so this was crucial for us. Also make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. A hat is a good tip too along with sun lotion.

To get to this hike, we had a hard time finding it at first as the maps didn’t seem super accurate, we parked at the swinging bridge lot and walked across the beautiful meadow, through a parking lot and the trail start was then easy to find.

Definitely recommend hiking boots that cover your ankle as it’s very easy to roll an ankle on this hike. Also bug spray.

Great hike that we would do again!

This is a three mile round trip hike from the base of the Upper Yosemite Falls trail head. It is located about a third of the way up the full trail to Upper Yosemite Falls (which is 7.6 miles round trip) and gives you a great viewpoint for photos of Half Dome and the valley below. It is a fairly difficult hike with about 1,000 foot gain and a lot of switchbacks but well worth it for the views. You can go past this about another 1/3 of a mile (with both up and down terrain) to see the base of the Upper waterfalls or on to the top for a 7.6 mile round trip. It's well worth it if you have the energy to do so. The Columbia Rock viewpoint is on the right hand side of the trail with railings so it's fairly easy to spot.
