Tour through one of our planet’s most spectacular regions, with an expert naturalist as your guide. Our guides live and work in the local area and have a wealth of knowledge about life in the far north. Gain an up close and personal acquaintance with Alaska’s Wrangell-St. Elias country as we drive and hike in the Copper River Basin. This tour will cover local (and edible!) plants, geology, fish, birds, culture, history, wildlife and more.

This tour is provided by the Wrangell Institute for Science and Environment, or WISE, a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides scientific and environmental education to all age groups, resources for learning, and support for scientific research.

Copper River and Valley is a beautiful part of Alaska. The size of West Virginia, it has just 3,000 inhabitants. We saw the pipeline up close and personal and learned... More

The tour was in a van - less than a dozen of us - and she gave us a great overview of the natural life and also some personal stories/viewpoints about living in Alaska that... More

The Copper River Discovery Tour was fantastic. Our guide, Diane, was excellent. She was impressively knowledgeable about not only the natural history of local animals and plants, but also with the history of the region (and state), and shared with us her experiences with the culture of interior Alaska. We had several pleasant wanderings through woods and learned much about... More

Alaska is very rich with plants and animals. The tourguide showed us various flowers, berries, and discussed the wildlife. We saw a sample of a black bear paw compared to the size of a brown bear paw. Different pelts were on display for us to touch while a presentation was given. We hiked a gorgeous trail and saw the Copper... More
