Nice, paved and easy drive

We aren't what you would call "bird watchers" but still had a pleasant drive through the wildlife refuge. Nice paved road, well kept. There were plenty of birds to see, we were... read more

The proximity of this wildlife refuge to the interstate ruins the atmosphere. There was also a lot of construction going on when we visited. It is a pretty place and I'm sure there are lots of birds at certain times but in May there were only the resident ducks, geese, eagles, etc none of the thousands of migratory birds that... More

We aren't what you would call "bird watchers" but still had a pleasant drive through the wildlife refuge. Nice paved road, well kept. There were plenty of birds to see, we were even lucky enough to see a bald eagle and a blue heron. I would stop if in the area, but would not make a special trip out but... More

Great day! Love seeing the variety of birds and water critters. Saw a bald eagle. Great day watching the birds.

I have visited this refuge several times. It is beautiful. Wildlife must be viewed from the car with the exception of trails or designated areas. Great place to view and photograph ducks. They have a bald eagle viewing area where the eagles nest. It is closed in the winter.

This past weekend, my husband and I decided to take a short road trip from Rochester. For all the times we've driven to Syracuse and passed through the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, we'd never actually visited. We figured we'd make a day of it, check out the refuge before heading down to Seneca Falls. Unfortunately, the visitor center and wildlife... More

I wouldn't go out of my way really to have found this; but it did have a nice trail; and a nice little visitors center with a nice person staffing it...the look out from the center onto the pond, gave nice views of some birds....

We stopped by in early February, because we were in the area, and thought we'd take a quick drive around the loop, to see what we could see. As it turns out, the loop, and the entire center for that matter, is apparently closed during the winter. I have visited several times, but even as a "semi-regular" I had not... More

We were on a week long canal boat rental and were able to dock at the refuge for the night. Be aware that the refuge closes at night, so you are not supposed to leave the boat after hours. A night in the refuge can be a bit spooky, but well worth it. There are an amazing number of different... More

My family and I visist Montezuma weekly to view and photograph the various species of wildlife that can be found on the refuge during the year. You never know what you me see, from bald eagles, Canada geese and all kinds of waterfowl, shore birds, egrets, song birds, muskrats and more.

I would have given a 4 but we didn't see much of anything but geese. It would have been better to go at a different time of year maybe. The visitor center was very nice and informative. Kids would love to see all the stuffed birds and a really neat beaver.

Thank CJTom
