The cemetery is huge and primarily contains Union soldiers. Walk among the graves to appreciate the lives given for our freedom and for what these men believed so dearly in.

We visited here while on vacation this year. The park was very moving and beautiful. To see where the battle was waged and knowing that you are walking through a piece of history is a bit overwhelming to say the least. I highly recommend this...More

Take time to view the impressive busts of battlefield commanders and the descriptions of the various states involved in each skirmish that conveys how important this battle was to both the Union & Confederates.

This cemetery is right across from the Cairo riverboat exhibit within the Vicksburg Park Trail. You drive thru the one way narrow street and can view the many crosses and head stones of the Union soldiers killed during this battle.

The Vicksburg national Cemetery is one of those sights that you can look at, but to really appreciate it, understand there are thousands of graves, and a great deal of them are unmarked. It makes you really wonder about war and the effects on family.

I loved visiting this cemetery and reading about the people buried here. It is truly a must-see if you are in Vicksburg. So many lives given for our country and the area is rich in history of the Civil War.

No........Sorry! And it is a lot of steps. This hillside is steep and not recommended. Wish you could do it though! Really amazing.
