Start your vacation right
Apr 2021
First night in Honolulu , and looking for a beach-side spot to get a bite and a Mai Tai. Waited in line for about 30 minutes, but well worth it. Great Mai Tais, pina colodas, Lemon Drops from the bar, and wonderful food. Had the pink pancakes - perfect introduction to Waikiki. Also french fries are super, as is the poke and burger. Listened to a wonderful musician (April 4, 2021) while we ate. An amazing start to a vacation week!

The BEST place in Waikiki but beware of the $22 Mai Tai
Mar 2021
Even though what I'm about to write is not entirely positive, there is NO way I can give this spot less than 5 starts because of the amazing staff and atmosphere, this is my absolute favorite spot for 21 years. That being said.... really guys (management?), $22 for a Royal MaiTai now, I mean you have GOT to be kidding me! Yes they are always fantastic, is it the most expensive rums, no... but quality overall. I get it COVID, limited capacity, closed for a year, this is the way to recoup some $$, (already got hit with the price of many of the glasses of wine on the menu now many around $18 or so I believe, a guest I met a few weeks ago complained to me that the cheapest glass of white wine they had was $18) but something that used to be $15 and change with tax is now over $23 with taxes, by the time you give the bartenders the tip they deserve you're at $30 for ONE drink! Many people don't make $30 in an hour. This is not just a tourist trap, this is a go to place, neighborhood spot for many locals and return guests, and you have priced yourself out of that market with this. Additionally a place I used to rave about telling people they have to go, well that has changed.. it's one thing to tell a tourist well it's a little pricey for a drink but $15-$16 is justifiable for a great Mai Tai with a view, $22 on the other hand is simply over the top. Management really needs to consider reassessing this, soften the blow with a more reasonable increase or modification to balance out budgetary issues that doesn't hit the customer quite as hard. I get it, this is a luxury place, top of the line, but honestly if I were bartending there I would feel terrible handing that $93 tab over to a couple on their first trip to Hawaii who had TWO drinks each, then expecting/hoping for a decent tip and for them to return? Well this is going to be a deterrent I'm sure.... Hoping for only the wealthiest guests who don't care? I don't know,... I have met many people there over the years who had complained about prices while visiting when they were much more reasonable, I feel like now when I used to find myself recommending and raving I'm going to instead have caveat that recommendation with a warning of the $22 Mai Tai...

St Paddy’s day visit

We had a wonderful couple of hours soaking up old world Hawaiian ambiance at the Mai Tai Bar. This bar is a must for first time visitors to Waikiki.

Best place for drinks
Feb 2021 • Couples
Great place for drinks on the Beach and to watch the sunset. Phi and Diane were excellent servers and kept a watch on our drinks. Had dinner the second night and the shrimp and Mahi were wonderful. Definitely a must do when in Ohua. Located at the Royal Hawaiian and seen several episodes of Hawaii 5-0. A bit less expensive than Dukes for dinner.

Beautiful Views and Great Drinks!
Dec 2020
An absolute must if you're staying in Waikiki. You're right on the beach so the views of the ocean and Diamond Head are amazing, the staff is friendly and they have the best Mai Tai's on the island. We almost never had to wait except for on a Saturday night and even then it was about 10 minutes.

Best Mai Tai’s
Dec 2020 • Family
Breath taking views while sipping on a cocktail, what could be better. This place is always packed but worth the wait. Best Mai Tai’s in town.

Cheating Dishonest Wait Staff
Mar 2020
In early March my husband and I had our delightful Mai Tais at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. I paid for the $86.91 bill with my credit card, and added a $12.00 tip. The total was $98.91. The less than delightful experience was when my credit card bill arrived, and the charged entry was $100.91. The $2.00 up charge is not the point in my irritation. My irritation is that the wait staff felt entitled to add additional tip to my bill. Shame on you wait staff individual Shawn R. What makes you feel you needed to take advantage of a customer to get a few extra dollars? I am sure this is not the first time you have done this, and that you make a hefty amount with your illegal, dishonest scheme. A hotel of this quality, and history, should not have wait staff that feel the need to cheat on a customer's charge card bill.

When you need a really good Mai Tai...they deliver
Mar 2020
OK, in fairness I was here during the Covid scare, so it was a bit stressful with restaurants closed, changing flights, unsure if I would be 'locked-down', etc. I came here and the bar staff mixed me just what I needed: a great, strong mai tai. I sat in the hotel's lobby and enjoyed this--and just for a moment I wasn't in a crazy world, but yes in paradise. So thank you, Royal Hawaiian, for serving up just what I needed when I neede it!

Excellent service and drinks on the beach
Mar 2020 • Couples
Headed here after dinner most nights for a few drinks and many laughs. Bar staff are great - if you head there, look out for Kui, great guy, great service, always up for a laugh and a joke. We tried most of the other beach bars on the strip, but kept coming back here for the atmosphere and drinks. One of the best beach bars on the strip in our opinion.

Lots of Mai Tai choices
Mar 2020 • Friends
You can walk right off of Waikiki Beach into this beach bar. Great place for either a view of Diamond Head or to watch the sunset. Tables right along the beach and there are a lot of tables, in the back behind the bar too. During sunset time, our Pupu’s were wasabi and hard coated nuts. Been going to this bar for many years for the special mai tai’s and on this trip experienced an influx of pigeons around our tables. Don’t know why. Staff were very accommodating and helpful during this time and supplied excellent service to us. I recommend if you have a chance to go to this bar to experience one of their mai tais and the excellent view. If you enter the hotel from the street side, the iconic grandeur of this hotel is spectacular.
