It was really interesting and beautiful to see Islamic art and mosaics in the middle of tropical Hawaii. Our absolute favorite part was the ceilings. I've seen Islamic tile work and mosaics before and Shangri La give you a nice variety but the ceilings and woodwork are amazing. Recommend to book in advance if you want to try for a... More

Booked this trip following a recommendation from friends. It is a super place to visit, the guides are friendly, informative and full of information. The tour group is only about 12 people , it is a great building full of exceptional Islamic art

This is a not to be missed, hidden attraction in the greater Honolulu area. The Shangri La Tour of Doris Duke's home through the Honolulu Museum of Art was both informative and beautiful. This estate is set on the ocean and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The home is dedicated to Islamic art and beautifully done. The architecture is stunning. And... More

One of the great sights not to be missed in Hawaii. Finest Islamic art. Go early in the day as the light is best then. It is about a 70 minute tour.

This tour is worth your time and money. You must book ahead to make sure you get the tour you want and you must leave from the art museum. The house is beautiful and the art is very interesting.

The work of a lifetime, this home shows what one person can create with an overall vision of the feeling she wanted the interiors and exteriors to create. Her integration of art work from antiques to contemporary artisans working in old ways was seamless. Like all great homes and gardens, it was always evolving, never finished. An inspiration to us... The private home and passion of Doris Duke well worth the visit by anyone who loves architecture and Islamic art. Even more interesting was learning the role Ms Duke played herself in the planning and design of the buildings and landscape. She curated everything herself demonstrating great taste and knowledge of Islamic cultures. These things and the incredible landscapes make... More

when we got there, in the outside you can't imagine from the setting the beauty that you are about to see inside, not common so much of that culture in Hawaii. Too bad you can't take pictures inside but very comprenhensive because of the preservetion of the items. at the entrance there is a locker section to leave bags.

It's a beautiful place I think, really beuatiful. You can see the beach from this palace, and outdoor swimming pool near the beach. Fantastic. The art and painting are really awesome, a little bit Middle East influence the art. You can see each part of the rooms here, that's interesting. enjoy...

I've wanted to visit this place for a number of years. Visitors must go through the Honolulu Museum of Art to make reservations / take the guided tour. There are limited days to visit so purchase tickets in advance. The home is beautiful as is the Islamic Art throughout the home which you will learn about on your visit. Children... More
