Mud, Mud and More Mud...Small Falls!!

Let me first say that I LOVE to hike! Difficult uphill trails do not deter me.I don't know if we visited Muanawili Falls at the worst time of the year (late Spring), but the trail... read more

We had read on a different website that people spent approximatey 45 minutes total on the trail ans falls but in reality, it would be 45 minutes one-way. We are avid hikers and visited the trail with our two year old son who loves walking. We had to carry him due to the difficult path (lots of roots and mud).... More

If you appreciate the beauty of plants and birds, this is hike for you. Knotted ferns furled in tight balls, wild bromeliads, guava, orchids and wild pigs are a few of the treats you'll find on the trail. The Maunawili Trail is 10 miles one-way. We started at the end of Waikupanaha Street in Waimanaloand finished at a scenic overlook... More

Not enough signage or information for this trail. It was beyond dangerous in parts and extremely muddy and slippery. Not a trail to do and get an injury along the way as you would be literally screwed. A very long difficult walk and the end result just wasn't worth it. Not sure if I am a spoilt Aussie but our... We have travel extensively and have done many waterfall hikes, with several on Oahu. We did Maunawili and likely would not do it again. We are not afraid of a difficult hike and getting a little dirty, but this one was insane! It had rain the day before and that should have been a clue, but we figured it would... More

We went here with our Oahu Private Tours guide Lukela, who took us up on an alternate, off-trail route to the falls which had us walking for about 20-30mins before we reached our destination. Yes, it was muddy and yes, it wasn't the easiest thing to do - but I think you have to embrace that to truly take in... More

Let me first say that I LOVE to hike! Difficult uphill trails do not deter me.I don't know if we visited Muanawili Falls at the worst time of the year (late Spring), but the trail was all mud! Sometimes we were wading through 6 inches of mud. And not only mud, but trying to maneuver through large tree roots that... More

The Maunawili trail hugs the Koolaus and is not a ridge hike, not a valley hike, but a cliffside hike that meanders along the mountainside. You will cross some streams, some small waterfalls, and for me, although I had a giant grin on my face upon finishing, are happy to see the ending. It is easy without it being wet,... More

Got here on a whim, 12 people with us teenagers and a kid in a back pack! We are not stranger's to adventure. Not hiking nuts at all just love getting dirty and muddy. At the entrance you will notice all the shoes that were left behind hanging on the power lines! The wife and a couple of us did... More

Visited Oahu last summer and wanted to get out and see the waterfalls so after reading several reviews on this hike before hand, and seeing pictures we decided on hiking up to the Maunawili Falls. But I wish I would have read a review like this before going. Let me first say that I went with my husband and my... More

The trail is very muddy and slippery. It seems not to be maintained. You need to cross the river at least twice to get to the falls, there is no bridges. Wear good trainers and take a bottle of water.
