About
This iconic landmark in Waikiki is one of Hawaii’s most famous beaches, located on the south shore of Oahu. Waikiki Beach is the birthplace of modern surfing culture—look out for the statue of renowned waterman Duke Kahanamoku, who popularized the sport internationally. Once the playground of Hawaiian royals, today the beachfront is lined with resorts and some of Hawaii’s most historic hotels. Surfers, swimmers, and sunbathers flock to this beach all day long. Boat tours in Waikiki are a great way for admiring the coast away from the crowds. Neighboring Kalākaua Avenue has plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. – Tripadvisor

    Best Beach
We went to this beach at about 9:45 am on a Saturday. Was fantastic! Clear waters and sandy bottom. Make sure to check out the Mai Tai Bar, which is at the Pink Grand Hawaiian Hotel and right on the beach!

    Amazing Beach
We stayed a block from this beach and it was perfect! I can't believe we actually visited this world famous location - it was everything I expected and more. The locals are so nice, they took time to help my boys get the right surfboard and checked up on them periodically. The beach itself was busy but worth it - I like to people watch and it was fun to see the diversity and interact with tourists from across the world. The waves were awesome, the water was just the right temperature and it was great to watch experienced surfers ride the waves. Bathrooms were OK but not a big concern as our hotel was so close.

    Very busy, noisy
Just returned from Waikiki Beach. If you’re looking for a good Hawaii experience, I would suggest some thing else. Very very busy place lots of people very very expensive. Beach was crowded. We did go to the north side of the island which was much prettier quieter better beaches my favorites are still the big island and Kauai.

    Stunning beach
Great for surfing and body boarding. Tide is pretty strong so swim where there's a life guard if you're not a strong swimmer. There also is a calmer closed off area on the beach you can swim. Can also rent cabanas, boards and get surfing lessons. Gets really busy, get there early to get a good spot.

    Busy
We stayed on Waikiki Beach for 2 days. Enjoyed it, however we enjoy slower paced/less-crowded locations. Lots of shops and restaurants, but also lots of salespeople on the street handing out samples to attempt to lure you into shops.

    Waikiki and must see
My wife and I are from New Orleans and this was our first visit to Hawaii. Our travel dates were May 3-May 14, 2023 . We consider ourselves “active” 71 year olds and love the outdoors . We stayed 3 nights in Waikiki then cruised the islands on Norwegian’s Pride of America. We enjoyed walking the streets of Waikiki in the mornings and evenings and was prepared for the commercial aspect of the area. We were prepared for the crowded beaches in Waikiki but it was a little more crowded than expected. We scheduled two tours in Oahu, Pearl Harbor and a tour of the Island. I recommend both very highly. In fact we had heard so much about the “Road to Hana” tour , which we did, but liked the Oahu tour better. Over all, it was a beautiful experience in Waikiki which was made so by the very friendly Hawaiians

    Absolutely Loved it
We had heard it would be crowded, and that there were quite a lot of people living in the streets & begging. But - we all thought it was a fantastic place. Lots of people on the beach - but the beach is so long that it never really felt that crowded. Love the way they have put the breakwaters in, so that kids (and older people like us) could still have little waves but not be too worried about being bashed about. The beach is always very clean, the sand powdery, and there is a lot of seating along it so you could just sit & watch all the activities going on. The shopping/eating area along the waterfront is really nice & there is something for most people. (Eating is expensive in Hawaii though !)

    Iconic beach
Can't believe I finally made it here! I stayed in the area so I was able to visit several times during my stay. Even went back at sunrise the day I was leaving - obviously less crowded at that time and peaceful. I loved it!

    Very Crowded
Waikiki Beach is beautiful and conveniently located. However, the beach was extremely crowded, and it’s not exactly one of the “best” beaches on the island. Come here early and have a relaxing beach day near your hotel, or enjoy the sunset. If you want to visit a truly exceptional beach though, this is not it (Try Lanikai Beach instead!).

    Busy but beautiful!
We were staying one block from the beach so we’re able to visit a couple of times during the day. In morning the tide was low however water is refreshing when hot. Went back in afternoon when tide was higher. Part has a beach wall that creates a safe place for kids to swim, and the rest is for surfers and those wanting to body board. It is busy so if you want a quieter beach there are plenty of others. You can hire umbrellas and loungers however they are quite expensive e.g $20 per hour for an umbrella and they sell out fast. One if the challenges is limited toilet facilities, they have port-a-Loos while they are doing restorations. Anyway you are always close to an ABC store for a cold drink so enjoy !

Waikiki Beach is beautiful, no doubt about it, however, it is sad how built up the area is with hotels and high-end designer stores. The hotel we stayed at was right across the street from the beach, so we did make a few brief visits during our stay. The beach was EXTREMELY crowded on the weekend and it was slightly less crowded on the weekdays.
One evening, we watched the sun set on the beach. It was neat to the watch the sun "sink" into the ocean, but I've seen far more beautiful and colorful sunsets in Wisconsin.
There are TONS of pigeons and other birds that are way too comfortable being around people, so if you are not a fan of birds, you will probably not enjoy your visit.
We noticed quite a few homeless and/or drug-addicted people walking around. One man in particular was screaming obscenities and got a little too close to my daughter, but fortunately kept walking. The smell of marijuana was quite pervasive at times on the beach and especially while walking down Kalakaua Avenue. I thought perhaps marijuana was legal until a Google search proved otherwise.

Legendary Waikiki Beach. The Great State of Hawaii, Hawaii 5-0 This is the Real Deal. Located on the Island of Oahu this is a Legendary Beach appearing in Countless Hollywood Movies.
Greta Patios, Sexy Wahinis, and onward. It is expensive but you get what you pay for.

The whole Waikīkī beach area is over built and crowded. There is plenty of high end shopping. A good description is it is a blend of south beach Miami and New York City. If you want on the beach be very careful when researching your room. It is a nice beach and has beautiful sunsets. The weather is perfect, cool with a nice breeze. But don’t spend all your time there.

We were at a hotel in Waikiki, for 2 weeks, so we got to see several areas of this lengthy, lovely beach. We walked along Kalakaua Ave. several days, along the wide sidewalk, and ended-up, going in and out of several beaches and areas. The furthest east we got to was Kapiolani Park Beach, and furthest west we got was the beach in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort, Kahanamoku Beach (with seeing these beaches in between, Queen's, Kuhio, and Ft. DeRussy). Many had park areas where one could sit in the shade or get a bit of sun. One evening, after dinner, we headed along to Kuhio Beach, and noticed a crowd, and when we got to a certain spot on the beach, we realized all of those people/kids were waiting for sunset, which was happening in about 10 minutes....beautiful, and seeing all the people silhouetted by the oncoming darkness, was cool! Several food locations in the Kuhio Beach area, the main area. Also at the eastern end of Kuhio Beach, there is a breakwater area, which makes it a safe, bay-type place, for families or adults, to swim in calm waters, where no waves would bother anyone. Several palm trees along these beaches, and an old Banyon Tree at Kuhio area!!

I am from Florida so I am a little bias, but Waikiki Beach is beautiful and I would have loved to have seen it 100 years ago before all the buildings were built. It is crowded and no parking to speek of. Several places to rent surfboards $35hr, and places to sit and people watch. Many shops and restaurants to chose from. At one spot there is a breakwater and it is a great place for small kids to play in the water. Several lifeguard stations around.

Can get very crowded at times but always a nice place to hang out. Always enjoy a few hours at the beach. You can rent paddles boards, take surf lessons, snorkel. One end near the zoo is very calm and great for kids.

View for yourself. Path is wide and well maintained, can do wheelchair along easily.

Beachfront/sand is thin and as along main strip of road, gets crowded.
Plenty of surf schools for tourist convenience but research slightly outside of Waikiki options.

Best area to sit is left past the zoo and Lulu’s. Bring a towel, sand is soft.
Turtles are known to stroll in early pre sunrise but I didn’t see any.

Beach Volleyball nets along this area.

Sunset from Waikiki can be lovely. As soon as it starts dropping, streams of people from hotels run onto the beach.

Pretty but over hyped. Everythingin the area is designed to separate you from your money. Look at restraunts along the outside edge of the area for good food at cheaper prices. Parking is almost as expensive as a rental car. If you are willing to walking mile or take the bus, rental cars prices drop almost 50%. We did day rental to a old over night parking fees.

Busy but Beautiful! I guess it’s to be expected, going after Christmas and before New Year that it would be busy. I’ve never seen Waikiki beach so busy. It was still beautiful and enjoyable until someone decided to put their towel right on mine. Can we not respect at least a one foot between people. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. Personal space people.

One of the most famous beaches in the world and its reputation is well earned. Yes, it's incredibly popular and this is not the beach to experience peace and solitude. However, it's a wide beach that stretches for a mile and can handle the crowds. The water is warm and clear with good wave action and has a sandy floor that has a gentle slope. Best of all is the iconic views of Diamond Head to the south and the dozens of high-rise hotels and condos behind you giving you an incredible mixture of being in a cosmopolitan setting combined with natural beauty. Numerous bars and restaurants along with shopping opportunities nearby. It all creates a unique lively vibe. One day we came at sunset and hung out at The Beach Bar at the Moana Surfrider Hotel followed by dinner at the Beachhouse also at the hotel. We returned another day but arrived in the late morning. We accessed the beach by photogenic Waikiki Surf Alley and parked ourselves between the Royal Hawaiian and the Outrigger Hotels. It wasn't too busy yet on the weekday we were there when arriving at around 11am. We rented a couple loungers and an umbrella and spent the rest of the day playing in the water and enjoying the scene. The only negative is that alcohol cannot be consumed legally on Waikiki as it is a public beach. Local police do patrol the beach. I'm sure there are creative ways to drink on the beach if you really have to but there are many nearby beach bars like Duke's and the Beach Bar at Moana.
