Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku was quite a prolific man. A gold medalist swimmer, actor, police officer and probably the most important person in the history of surfing. One evening we visited the statue to commemorate the famous Duke Paoa Kahanamoku (1890-1968), who was a famous Hawaiian surfer. On the second floor of the first hotel in Hawaii, Moana Surfrider is some great memorabilia of Duke and the hotel offers a free historical tour of the hotel and lots of information about Duke. On display are some of the original wooden surfboards.…

This statue also has a camera that you can advise your friends and families to look at when you are in front of the statue. We did not advise our friends, but we did take a picture.
