Lots of things to see within walking distance. We stayed at a local hotel and would go for walks at night. We neer felt unsafe. Local restaurants are pricey but I guess everything is pricey in Hawaii.

Amidst the expected highrise office buildings there are many small shaded park areas where you can enjoy a take out lunch. Many buildings have small take out eateries mostly catering to downtown workers. You can get an inexpensive lunch and enjoy it on a bench...More

Yeah, if you are ever in Oahu don't forget to party on the First Friday of each months. You will see live music, art and even GREAT places to EAT.

I was surprised how crowded it gets in downtown. Lots of great shopping, good restaurants and bars, and you can see the ocean. I prefer more out of the way areas on Oahu though, there is so much natural beauty on the Island to see....More

Not a place I would like to live. Downtown was crowded and full of cars. Traffic is horrendous. Would not recommend

This is the reason to NOT visit Oahu, worst island in Hawaii. Everything is catered to Japanese tourists, way over-priced, and skeezy/sleezy.

Lived on the Fort Street Mall for a year or so in the early '70s. Now the place has been remodelled and made part of a university.

Hi, we are coming back to Honolulu for the 3rd time from Australia and loved the International markets in the centre of everything. The last time we visited it had just closed for Hotel to be built. Have they moved to another location or is that the end of an era for the wonderful makets?

The international market place is closed until late August 2016 for refurbishment. It was completely closed when I was there in February and all torn up inside. I'm not sure how they will finish by their projected completion... More

You can contact the US Immigration about a work visa. If you are fluent in English you could always find a job as a translator. Good luck.
