Got the THeBus from Waikiki to Chinatown. I found the area rundown, dirty and depressing with homeless people lying around everywhere. It was not worth the trip. It needs to be cleaned up and redeveloped and turned into a tourist attraction like in Sydney or San Francisco. The area didn't feel clean or safe.

I've been to many cities' Chinatowns. Hawai'i is still by far my favorite. It might be the nostalgia associated with it, but I just can't help loving it. From the fish to the baked chinese goodies to the little shops tucked into the corner selling cheap little kids toys. It is what is truly is and it's as authentic and... More

AMAZING. The fireworks, drums, and dragons, along with the beautiful enclosed courtyard make you feel like you're really part of the celebration. I'm so glad I went - it was one of the experiences I'll remember for the rest of my life. Street vendors had food (mainly fried) and lots of knock knacks. An inside market (flea market) had pretty... There's something strange about Chinatown in honolulu- most stores and restaurants are closed in early afternoon. That said, the cultural plaza has some restaurants open at night but you'd still gotta consider the fact that not a lot of people are around. Along the river there are older people smoking and hanging out (playing cards or chess or other stuff).... More

Chinatown was referred to as one of the top places to visit in Hawaii. It seemed very scary and dirty when we went, so we didn't stay very long. Don't waste your time.

This review is for the Chinatown area. We usually tried to visit Chinatown in most of the cities we visit. Many of the restaurants were closed that were refer by yelp. It was difficult to tell if the shop was closed for the day or was it closed for good. We went around 6pm and the streets were mostly deserted... More

I live across the street from this place, and can find several dim sum restaurants to suit my taste. There are also open markets in the area, to buy meat (fish, chicken, etc.) and vegetables and fruits at reasonable prices. Come see for yourself why I like being at this place.

We stopped here for dim sum at lunchtime, and it was very good. Also, nice shrine and authentic feel to the place. Of course, it is visited by tourists, but it felt more like you were visiting Chinatown, and not a tourist attraction. Many restaurant choices - we had dim sum for lunch one day, and dinner another day
