Ty was great! He really made sure we caught some good waves despite the winds! We had such a great time, stood up every tome, and saw a turtle 💚 thank you for such a good time!

My family and I all surfed for 5 days with the team at Ty Gurney. Our boys ages 11 and 9, my wife and I all had an absolutely AMAZING time!!! The staff at Ty Gurney were so wonderful with our kids that we booked extra days. I couldn't recommend strongly enough the Ty Gurney surf school and everyone one of their staff. They treated us like family and we can't wait to go back!

The instructors are amazing and patient and the surfing was awesome! Highly recommend, especially with teens!!!

Rhett was my instructor and he was fantastic! He did all the paddling to get me out there to help save my energy for catching the waves. I was able to catch several waves with his help and even one on my own! Don’t hesitate, book now!!

I can’t recommend highly enough. Surf lessons whilst in Waikiki are a must, but this isn’t inexpensive….i went with my two sons aged 19 and 16, and I have to say it was worth every single dollar.
We felt as though we were hanging out with some friends who were helping us to surf.
Firstly, we were towed out to the pops (which was great, as I was worried that I’d be knackered before I even started surfing - I’m no spring chicken!)
I really wanted the focus to be on the kids, but I was told that everyone would be standing up (I was sceptical !)
Both the boys got up first time, and I got up after a couple of goes….what impressed me was that we were made to feel at ease, and the instructors (genuinely) wanted us to have a good time. They provided lots of moral support, and cheered when we rode some great waves.
We also took the video package, and can’t wait to see what was captured on film, and get some great stills of our experience.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these guys (and gals!) to create some great memories for you and your family whilst in Waikiki !
Ps - I think they have one of the best jobs in the world !

It was wonderful. I can definitely recommend Ty Gurney surf school. Elliott was a great instructor, friendly, encouraging and very knowledgeable. The best place for surf lessons in Waikiki!

My wife and I just moved to the Island and wanted to learn how to properly surf. After reading various reviews, Ty Gurney stood out to be the best and he was even endorsed by Kelly Slater.
We signed up for the semi-private lesson and Ty, Jacob and Nicco couldn't have been more awesome! They immediately made us feel comfortable and took us out to a local break "Populars". After a few tips, we both started catching waves.
It was such a memorable experience and we'd highly recommend Ty Gurney to anyone who wants to properly learn how to surf and have a great time.

We spent five days in the water with Ty, Elliot, Elijah, Jacob, Nick and James...had a blast and they took great care of us. They know what they're doing and are super chill to hang with - Ty even took a tooth for us! Never in my life have I had 'paddle service'...go with these guys they're the best.

We went in the morning and it was perfect - the wind was nice and light and it was mild but the water wasn’t cold.

Thank you for contacting Ty Gurney Surf School. We are located to the East from from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Most customers will either have a short 10min walk or catch a quick car ride over. What other questions do you have?

OH and why a two hour vs one hour lesson? Do you just start getting the hang of it in an hour and regret not booking the two? Would two hours be too long for a 14 year old boy?
I assume all you do is show up for the lesson in a swimsuit and with sunscreen. Everything else comes in the package price?
