I was muttering under my breath for having to go to a museum when I was vacationing in Honolulu. But after walking around and looking I became interested in what I was seeing.  This museum is noted for it's Asian collections, and there were many artifacts, some quite large. Like temple doors, totems, statues. I began wondering how the museum... More

Bus picked us up. It is on a time shcedule so don't mess around. The house is not great for handicapped people and no bathroom. But it is amazing to see and hear the explanations. The lady manning the bus was terribly rude and fibbed to us. We had a person with us on a walker and she wouldn't let... More

This fantastic gem of a museum is worth the trip. The exhibits are exquisitely chosen and presented and we felt as if we had the entire gallery to ourselves. Don't miss this one.

I love the building, the collection is very good historically and contemporary, the restaurant has good food but you should book as it has good food and everyone likes sitting semi outside in great surroundings. The museum shop is good too.

My wife was an art history major and I am a big fan of museums (and art), so of course we had to check out the Honolulu Museum of Art. Somehow we never got around to it during our past 4 visits to Oahu, and I think that's partly because of its marketing/image (such as their website); it never seemed... More

We were very impressed by the breadth of this small collection. We focused on European, American and South Pacific art and liked the thematic presentation. For example, focus on human form from a variety of cultures and times. There are other collections of Asian and Muslim art as well.

We stopped by here on a rainy Thursday afternoon for a visit. Tickets are $10 apiece for those ages 18 and over. They have a decent restaurant and a small café inside. While we were visiting, they had a temporary exhibit of manga art from Takayuki Miou, a current Japanese artist, who draws Shōjo Manga, aimed at a teenage female... More

I loved this gallery. Not huge, but when we visited they had a wide variety of work on exhibition. The building is beautiful and I couldn't believe the lack of crowds, as everywhere else has been very busy. Lovely way to send a few hours and a nice shop as well.

Although we galloped through several galeries in this museum due to limited time, I would definitely visit again, plan to have lunch at their cafe, and shop in their museum gift shop. As our focus was on the art and culture of Polynesia, we enjoyed seeing some recently designed costumes as well as traditional tapa cloth, neck pieces worn by... More
