Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

LOVELY AND QUIETER THAN BASIC WAIKIKI BEACH

Walk a little further - past the zoo and it becomes much quieter and very peaceful. All the way to the aquarium is lovely.

Great pictures of the banyan tree, the zoo is right there and so if the bus stop. Starbucks and good eats right across the street.

The perimeter is a favorite for joggers and walkers. Jogging around the park is about 1.77 miles; around the zoo is about 1.2 miles; and around the perimeter of the kapiolani park-zoo is about 2.16 miles. Lots of water fountains and toilets available. The tennis courts (4 courts) looks like it was recently renovated. Lots of visitors take formal pictures... More

I have visited this park several times and I love this park. The last time though I noticed there were more homeless people living around it than before. Beautiful place for families to enjoy.

This park is used for a myriad of local groups: yoga, soccer, rugby etc. They also have two separate sets of tennis courts. It is minutes from the beach and great for a peaceful walk. They have beautiful trees including some banyans.

Nice beach, nice park, great Saturday farmers market with local music. Well worth a visit - even if you are staying at the other end of Waikiki.

I had read about a Beach Sunset Yoga and looked it up when I got there. They meet up at Kapiolani Park which is right off the water. They also do Sunrise Yoga for early birds. Awesome!

We regularly visited this park as you have a great view of Diamond Head and it is a large open space where some people were having picnics

Average park but it was a good walk on an overcast, sprinkly day when the beach was not an option. It has some lovely trees with odd trunks, nice view of Diamond Head. Worth a walk if you are sick of the beach but don't want to go too far

Kapi'olani park is a mainstay in urban Waikiki/Honolulu. Everyone goes there for something eventually and many locals spend 1-3 days there a week. It's a great place to jog, play frisbee, kickball, have a picnic, practice yoga or any number of other activities. It's right across the street from the beach too so you can take a dip after working... More
