Enjoyed a walking tour of Jewish Newport with Karen, a Docent from the Touro Synagogue followed by a talk inside the Synagogue about its history. Very enlightening and nice to still see this historic synagogue thriving.

I wish all synagogues had the clean look of this historic classic. Because of the history and beauty, should be visited by people of all faiths.

There is so much history in Newport, the city is alive with it. Touro Synagogue is a beautiful little piece of that history. Be sure to stop in and read about it. I have been there twice. Took my boyfriend this time, he had never been to Newport.

Visited both before and then again after the major reconstruction of this historically-important place. It is truly beautiful and wonderful how the original synagogue space has been preserved even while modern support was added.

There is only a small window of opportunity to take the tour of Touro Synagogue (Sundays 12:00-1:30). After many trips to Newport we set time aside to see this gem of history and religion. The tour presenter (Lew) was an outstanding speaker and very knowledgeable. I would have been happy to listen to him for hours. Please carve out a... More

The first synagogue in America is a gem. The interior style is similar to the colonial churches nearby. It is administered by the synagogue and closed if there are religious services or events. Make sure to check their website or call for opening days and times. Well worth a visit, built in the 1600's.

Searching on line for attractions near a place I was going to anyway, I found a beautiful, beautiful photo of the Touro Synagogue, and thought it would be impressive to see it in person and hear about the oldest synagogue in America! Waiting for the tour there were stories on the wall to read. At the actual tour, the tour... More

Step back in time and learn the history of the oldest jewish house of worship in the country. And also learn how RI was tolerant to all religions. Worth the visit.

Oldest synagogue in the US. Our guide had fascinating stories to tell. You don't see as much as in the synagogues in Amsterdam e.g., but nevertheless very interesting history.
