Part of the Kachina Peaks Wilderness Trail System. Be sure to sign the book so the Rangers know who you are, how many in your party, and what your destination is. The elevation climb is a challenge, but is do-able. Hiking sticks are highly recommended. Take the time to stop and listen every now and then....there's plenty of wildlife. Would... More

I did this hike with a fairly large group a few days ago. It was my first time up the trail. It was challenging due to it's length (10 miles round trip), elevation gain (I think 3600 feet), and altitude at the top (12,620-ish feet). Nevertheless, it's certainly not an impossible hike and suspect that anyone in moderately good cario... More

It is completely worth the effort to bike / hike up these trails. Make sure you have enough water and supplies, as it can get toasty up there!

Five miles to the peak, but worth it. The views are spectacular. Trail condition is rocks and roots. Take your time, remember your going to 12,600 feet.

Be prepared for this 10 mile round trip as the weather on the top may not match the weather in the parking lot. The 3000+ ft elevation gain takes you up above the tree line and exposed to the elements for more than a mile, where you'll traverse a marked path on scree. We had gusty winds and dense fog... More

This peak was on my list of hikes when I was planning my trip and I'm really glad (but also very annoyed!) that I did it. I visited in September and even though the weather was lovely clear blue skies and sunshine when I set off from the car park at the bottom, as I got further up things got... More

This peak is my fav...The views up here are fabulous, because you can see almost to the Grand Canyon & the reverse is true. When you are at the entrance to the canyon you can see the peaks in the distance. This is about 1 hr & 10 min between the two when driving. Almost as good as being on... More

This hike is very strenuous, high altitude, a little dangerous, but if you're in shape and prepared, it will stay with you for a life time. Check the weather first of all. I have done this hike in a younger man's clothes in winter and summer. It will definitely take your breath away. Did I mention to check the weather?... More

Definitely a treat in the summer but be prepared to experience "weather' on your 30 mins. up or back down. Keep your camera ready, hold the kids steady - binoculars enhance the experience. Last month of summer business you get a two-fer barbecue with your ride!

Pretty busy, but we were all spaced out so it wasn't clustered. Saw a class of 4th graders at the top! Be prepared for wind at the summit. This wasn't as taxing as some make it sound on here, but I'm in fairly good shape for living at sea level. This wasn't a grueling uphill slog. Gradual slope and long... More
