Growing from a backyard, volunteer-run operation, the Alaska Raptor Center...

Growing from a backyard, volunteer-run operation, the Alaska Raptor Center has become Alaska's foremost bald eagle hospital and educational center, as well as one of the state's premier visitor attractions. Each year, the Alaska Raptor Center provides medical treatment to 100-200 injured bald eagles and other birds. Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 36,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-A-Raptor program and Classroom Presentations around the country. The Alaska Raptor Center's 17-acre campus borders the Tongass National Forest, a temperate coastal rainforest, and the Indian River in Sitka, Alaska, and features award-winning natural habitats for our 19 Raptors-in-Residence.

It rained heavily one day so we went to the raptor center instead of another tour. The presentation about the different birds was very interesting. The volunteers seemed happy to be there and happy to answer questions. The walk around the center featuring various species was fabulous. We will return next time we're in town.

Great place to get up close and personal with not only the eagle but owls as well at this recuperation centre/hospital. Interesting talks available throughout the day with the birds as well. Inside and outside exhibits that are wheelchair accessible. Gift store and restrooms available on site. Great place to visit and learn about these amazing birds. My husband and... More

The ability to see Birds of Prey so close is amazing! Seeing those birds in a wooded landscape added to the positive experience.

This is a superb place to see the rescue and rehabilitation work done with raptors, and to get up close and personal with the truly magnificent birds that are being helped. The small entry fee delivers a large experience and helps to defray running costs -you can stay as long as you like and your photo opportunities will be endless.

As a part of an Alaskan cruise, we visited Sitka, Alaska. We had complimentary shuttle service from the ship to the downtown area and back. The shuttle ride is about 15 minutes each way. We did a self-directed tour of the downtown area. We walked about 30 minutes from downtown to the Alaska Raptor Center. We walked back and the... More

Especially if you have any interest in birds. Raptors are rescued and returned to the wild if possible and if not they are well taken care of. Don't forget to make a contribution!

We took the community bus ($3 for all day - what a deal!) from the Fortress of the Bear to the Raptor Center. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. We were just in time for one of the bald eagle talks. I was this close [-] to an incredible eagle! Inside the building, you can see a "flight training... More
