Overview
More
Growing from a backyard, volunteer-run operation, the Alaska Raptor Center has become Alaska's foremost bald eagle hospital and educational center, as well as one of the state's premier visitor attractions. Each year, the Alaska Raptor Center provides medical treatment to 100-200 injured bald eagles and other birds. Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 36,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-A-Raptor program and Classroom Presentations around the country. The Alaska Raptor Center's 17-acre campus borders the Tongass National Forest, a temperate coastal rainforest, and the Indian River in Sitka, Alaska, and features award-winning natural habitats for our 19 Raptors-in-Residence.

This little gem of an "attraction" in Sitka is well-worth your time. You'll learn about raptors (Eagles, Hawks, Owls and more), get to visit with them up close and personal, see rehabilitated Bald Eagles retraining their wings in the Flight Rehab Building, visit with all...More

The center is doing important work rehabilitating these magnificent birds. You can see them doing flight training and feeding. Wonderful staff! We learned a lot!

The diversity and the scope of rehabilitation that the wonderful employees provide is amazing. Very informative and knowledgeable employees are readily available. The bald eagle "flight school" facility is great with about 15 bald eagles interned at our visit. Watching them fly and swoop around...More

We enjoyed our visit to the Raptor Center. This location takes injured raptors, heals them and returns those they can back into the wild. They have numerous birds in various stages of recovery that visitors can view. A short "show and tell" educational presentation is...More

Visited here with cruise group prior to start of cruise. Excellent presentation to group about raptors by very knowledgable presenter. We explored the indoor area of the center and also outdoor area. Worth the visit.

Must see, beautiful birds up close, great program. The work being done here is fantastic, I would go back again when and if we visit Sitka.

Much like Fortress of the Bear, the Raptor Center is a non-profit that rescues/rehabs injured raptors (owls, eagles, hawks). There is a large, free flight eagle training area behind the main demonstration theater. Unfortunately, the "show" I saw was a bird perched on a trainer's...More

Walked from town through Totem Park to get here, it was an easy stroll. We arrived fairly late so ended up getting a tour by ourselves, the guide was very knowledgeable and excited about his work, we spent about thirty minutes with the guide and...More

Seeing and learning about the raptors was interesting and alone worth the visit. However, the following tour through the rainforest trails with a very knowledgeable guide was exceptional. An excellent way to invest your time in Sitka.

Yes HAL runs a tour to the Raptor Centre. Don't know if the bus will accommodate you. We walked up to the centre but would not advise you to do that

Google alaska raptor center the first response will be their website, and at the top of the website is a link to their gift shop. I would include the links but trip adviser prohibits it
