Quality Gear
Jun 2018 • Couples
This is a shop for outdoor adventurers looking for, or needing, quality gear in a pinch. This is a fairly small scale store but it has good variety, high quality products: including footgear, jackets, hiking gear, etc.
Just as valuable is the knowledgeable sales people -not only in terms of the gear they stock but also the local hiking trails, camping and eateries.

Convenient local outdoor supplies and clothing store.
Nov 2017 • Couples
We enjoyed browsing this local store and purchasing hiking supplies and clothing. The young saleswoman was very helpful and knowledgeable about equipment, the trails and the area. Its location is convenient, right at the corner of the main entrance to downtown. If you are looking for outdoor supplies and or clothing, AOA is the place to go.

Read the Small Print
Jul 2017 • Solo
I bought a shirt here but didn't have time to try it on at the store. When I got it home, I found that it was much too large. I took it back - totally untouched, perfect with all tags still in place with the receipt. I tried on a smaller size, but it was too small - just no in between size available for me. I asked to return it for a refund. NO was the answer in spite of the fact I only had the shirt for a couple of days still in brand new tagged condition and the receipt. Store policy - NO RETURNS of any kind - in store credit only. If you find nothing, you are out of luck. There is no indication anywhere in the store or a mention of no returns when you buy. After you get a printed out receipt, the small print on the bottom says No Returns... so, only after you get the receipt do you find that it's already too late to take anything back. Poor store policy and customer service with this attitude. Clerks were nice enough, but they didn't communicate any of this at purchase and basically leave you hanging after the fact. I wouldn't shop here again. Too bad. It could be much more user friendly.

Just looking
Apr 2017 • Couples
We walked into Appalachian Outdoors Adventures "just looking" and walked out a couple of hundred dollars later. They had great quality at reasonable prices. The sales clerk was very helpful and friendly. We are hikers who appreciate good quality.

I stopped here on my Appalachian Trail backpacking trip and Elise was very helpful. I needed new insoles for my hiking boots and she sized and fitted them perfectly for me. She answered my questions and there was a nice stock of gear that hikers need.

Might as well call AOA the visitors welcome center!! The ONLY reason no five stars is because they don't have kid things. But they have everything else!!! Linda was honest, patient, and super savvy. We are here for a week and will be back!

Love your local gear shop!! and this one is good one.
Apr 2016 • Solo
Stopped in late (almost closing time) on Saturday, 4/16 and Elise spent time with me talking about the gear I was looking to purchase, as well as other stuff about the area. I did not feel rushed and walked out of there with the gear I was looking for--along with reaffirmation of why we need to shop local gear shops and not support REI and the other chains that are trying to destroy the local shops. If you are in that area or coming off the AT and need gear, advice or some kind words stop by this place. Great experience and great shop. Thank you!

My boyfriend and I were visiting the area and decided to stop in to look at backpacks for a later trip. The owner was wonderful! He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in fitting us each for the correct pack. He took the time to chat with us and didn't rush us even though the store was closing. We had a wonderful experience here and wish we lived closer!! Stop in if you're in the area, it is worth it!

A gem
Sep 2014 • Couples
The owner was in and we chatted for a good 30 minutes. Very helpful and knowledgable about the local community, and the Trail community. The shop has everything a long distance backpacker could need as well as the day hiker and weekend adventurer. The place is somewhere I'd hang out if I lived closer.
We hit up a very nice sale (50% off) and were able to score some decent hiking clothing.
