This is a rescue zoo and a much needed service/place. The animals were well cared for and the enclosures clean. My son loved all the snakes and there is quite an assortment. He loved seeing all the varieties of cobras and there was even a...More

What a disappointment! We were really looking forward to visiting the zoo. We love animals and have great admiration for rescue organizations. What we found was an unkempt, uncared-for jumble of mostly empty cages. Yes, cages, not habitats. Weeds and grass were high and straggly...More

I was hesitant as I'm a first impressions kinda person. Man was I wrong. This place is amazing. No it isn't the Smithsonian or any other major zoo. It is all about the rescue of animals. The owner - I wish we had gotten his...More

It’s important to first set expectations. National Zoo, not. San Diego Zoo, not. Bronze Zoo, not. The Luray Rescue Zoo is a zoo in its own category: small in acreage, small in the number of exhibits, yet big in some major categories. For example, even...More

The first thing to be aware of when visiting this place is that the animals there are mostly there because they are rescues - captive-bred animals which were pets whose owner passed away or could no longer maintain them, animals retired from educational programs, etc....More

I saw someone mention packing a lunch. This is not that type of zoo. It's fairly small with a few fascinating animals you can get really close to. It only took us about 30 minutes to see everything. The animals all came through rescue and...More

Hi, we were planning on packing a lunch but I see that coolers are not allowed. Is there food available or even better a place nearby with a picnic table?
