We were interested in some fly fishing in the area and went this shop. They helped us pick out some flies that were catching fish and recommended some area along the Pecos River for my son to fish. He caught some nice Brown Trout and Rainbow. Both of us had the entire day after my conference so we hired a... More

I live locally and I use High Desert frequently for both guiding and equipment. The guides are the best around and they know all of the streams in Northern New Mexico. They make you feel like you are the most important person in the world and they are as happy as you when you catch fish. The shop carries all... More

We did not go on a fishing trip, but simply visited the great little store. It is jam packed with all kinds of things - in addition to the flies. There is something for everyone here and the proprietors/staff are simply awesome and very welcoming. My husband is interested in fly fishing (has a pole and fly tying books etc)... More

What a great day! Our guide, Norman Maktima (a world champion fly fisherman), took us to a beautiful stretch of the Pecos River where we spent a beautiful day fishing, learning & having one of the most memorable days of our lives. I live near Atlanta & don't get to fish as much as if like, certainly not fly fishing.... More

I was hesitant to book a guided fly fishing trip because I figured the guide would be all business, rush us in and out or even be impatient with our lack of skill. Quite the opposite was our experience. Our guide, Wayne, was very personable yet professional and seemed to have as his primary goal a good fishing experience for... More

We decided to try this company for fishing on one of our stays in Santa Fe. When we went to the shop, we were met by one of the very knowledgable employes to book a trip with a private guide. I have a lot of fishing experience but do not have any fly fiishing equipment so both my wife and... More

Helpful staff able to accommodate last minute trip. Their private water was very productive with over 15 fish caught within 1/2 day trip. A couple of nice 18-20" and a bunch of 10-15" browns and rainbows on the Pecos River section at 9 mile marker. Super chubby with #16 grey wing dropper seemed to work best.

As another review has said: If you want to spend a lot of money, this over-priced place will cater to you. So bring your own gear. However, they do arrange for good guides.

This is the place recommended to us for all the fishing needs while in Santa Fe. We rented the equipment and bought the fishing license here as well. They offered us good advice on where to fish including urban fishing in SF and fly-fishing in Pecos Wilderness in Santa Fe National Forest. There prices were high for us for just... More

Husband and daughter were looking to fly fish on our trip to Santa Fe. Booked a trip with High Desert Angler. Norman took them out and between the two of them, they caught almost 30 fish. They both were grinning from ear to ear, even though they finished the trip in rain and hail.
