Surrounded by city landmarks, including art and history museums, the Santa Fe Plaza is the heart and soul of the capital city. Sit back on one of the square’s benches to people-watch and take in the small-town feel. Then, set out to explore the countless art galleries, shops, and flea markets in the area. Try the local street food from the food carts, or if you’re in the mood to splurge, check out the dozen or so high-end restaurants. Fun shops and artwork!
Lots of fun shops (jewelry, art, crafts etc) to go into and buy something. Fabulous sculptures in and around the area as well. Parking a bit difficult but still worth getting out for a stroll…

Every Santa Fe trip should include the Plaza
We've been here more times than can be remembered (used to live in SF) and we never miss it. It's a great place for relaxing, eating, shopping, etc. Sit on a bench in the shade and people watch or stroll down the Palace of the Governors to see all the wares for sale by Native American artisans. There's something for everyone.

    Highly recomend
parking is hard, we found some at the Municipal building in the underground garage. nice & shady. Very walkable with little shops & galeries. I Highly recommend you see the LORETTO CHAPEL with the floating stairs.

Lovely centre of the city but a bit of a contradiction.
The hub of the city with its beautiful Central Park surrounded by historical adobe museums and buildings. Definitely worth visiting. Sitting here in the shade you can take a breath and enjoy the atmosphere. On both occasions I was there a local Native American was providing authentic music, the birds were singing and it felt like the world was at peace. My only reservation which meant I nearly scored this average is the fact that there are lots of Native Americans sat on the floor surrounding the plaza. The issue I have is the fact that whilst there is no doubt their presence adds to the atmosphere and authenticity of the city, the city doesn’t acknowledge this by giving them proper stands on which to display their goods instead of leaving them on the cold floor. The contradiction that around the corner are masses of shops selling goods worth thousands made me uncomfortable. It felt disrespectful.

A leisurely afternoon in the Plaza.
A very busy plaza with places to sit in the shade, listen to music by local musicians, and enjoy the afternoon. Local jewelry artists display their wares along one side of the Plaza. There always seemed to something going on at this focal point in the historic section of Santa Fe.

    Santa Fe Trip from Albuquerque
There's a train from Albuquerque to Santa Fe that costs only $6 for students. The plaza was close to the rail station so we decided to visit the plaza. The weather was good. It's cooler than Albuquerque. Plenty of places to dine. I'd recommend the ones that serve traditional foods.

    NICE PLACE TO VISIT
We took our adult children who are visiting from Dubai to Santa Fe. First time for them. They enjoyed walking around the stores that circled the plaza and all the people selling items in front of the governors palace. The last time my wife were there, we saw the band Pink Freud, who were great.

    Santa Fe Plaza General Comments
Santa Fe Plaza is mostly galleries and shopping, A LOT of shopping. Don't miss San Miguel, the oldest church in the US as well as the adjacent oldest house in the US, a short walk from the plaza. I enjoyed the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, but admission is steep at $22 (in my opinion). San Francisco Bar & Grill had delicious, reasonably priced food.

I found the town to be overrated. The Palace of the Governors is practically empty inside. I wasted time there before heading to the O'Keeffe museum. The counter person there walked up to me just when it was my turn to buy a ticket to turn me away. I was leaving the next day and couldn't come back. People strangely seemed compelled to throw the number 13 at you as if they made a pact with the devil to curse you. Walking around the city felt like there were demons flying around waiting to get you in trouble. I got very strange vibes from that town. I don't envy the people who live there.

Another must go place here. Not only is there a lot to see and experience here but you access some great places from here as well. If you're into local vendors there are lots here as well. Worth a walk for sure.

We spent a little time driving around and decided to spend our limited time at the plaza. There we found out we picked the worst day because it was the day of Bill Richardson’s funeral. The whole area was filled with no where to park and since we have limited mobility we couldn’t just walk from too far away. We will try to go back sometime, just not sure when.
