With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

We went to spend a few hours while we were in town & ended up staying until closing. Could've spent more time. First, this zoo has elephants, hippos & some other "non-PC" animals zoos like Chicago no longer have. I like the big cats & they have a lion family, clouded leopard, cheetahs, tiger, fishing cat and more. A nice... More

Our family with a teenager, a preteen and a toddler went to the San Antonio Zoo for the first time. We got there about an hour after it opened and the parking was already quite full, and there were lines to purchase tickets. There was supposed to be a discount for online purchases with a coupon code, but it wasn't... More

This was the first time to the SA zoo and we will definitely come back again! The lines may look long, but they move fast for entry. Be sure to take a family snap shot on the lions. Getting around the zoo might be a bit much for someone who is disabled or in a wheelchair, a power scooter would... More

This is the second time i've been here and still found it a great day out. There are quite a few animals you will not see at other zoos. The Hippopotamus enclosure is excellent where you can see them swimming underwater. You can also feed the Giraffes if you want to. There is plenty of parking and a reasonable admission... More

Pleasant walk, relatively clean, interesting to very interesting exhibits. Great for a one-time visit. Several long lines, (entrance, train ride, food service court). (we are members, so it's not just on busy weekends - long lines are a constant. Prices are NOT low or a bargain - not saying it's overpriced, but it's not "cheap". Customer service form staff indie... More

My wife and I brought our 6 month old daughter to the zoo for a nice day out. We expected to only be there a few hours, but gladly stayed from 9am-5pm. There was so much more to see and do than we had anticipate, the grounds well-maintained, and the animals well cared for. Be sure to buy the fun... More

Great Zoo! We go about 2-3 times a month with my 2 year old who lives the Giraffes. The keepers are phenomenal! The last time we went we were by ourselves and the keeper took video for me of my daughter feeding Cosmo. Very clean and well kept Zoo! Many changes for the better have been made even just in... There were a lot of different animal exhibits and even some animals we had never seen before. The park was nicely landscaped and there was plenty of shade. It took about 3 hours to see everything.
