The AHS Downtown Museum has a wide range of exhibits that tell the story of Downtown Tucson history. Many of the exhibits depict early Tucson businesses, including drugstores, police and fire departments, and the Romero barbershop. Daily life in historic Downtown Tucson is also a major feature with displays and artifacts related to theater, music, social clubs, and sports. We currently offer a special exhibit on the John Dillinger gang that includes Dillinger's bullet proof vest. Come check out our brand new gift shop! Admission is always free, donations are always welcome.

As a tourist in Tucson, and also planning to travel in Arizona, this museum provided a historical foundation for my travels and experiences. It showcases lots of interesting events that took place in Tucson that put it on the map. Public Parking is near by, which is covered by the historical society. I wish other museums on campus did the... More

An unexpected find and very reasonable admittance. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They have archives, so if you have questions regarding local history and time for research, I would consider this as a resource. It is on a small scale but contains interesting exhibits designed to appeal to all ages that reveal early life in Tucson and the mining... More

We tried to visit the museum on June 3rd (Tuesday) at 10:30am, but they were closed. Also no sign on the front gate to indicate what was going on? Nobody answered the phone # as well. The museum had a brochure that stated the hours were Tuesday-Friday, 10am-4pm, but that must be outdated. Parking in front of the museum is... More

This small, well done yet not fancy or glitzy by any means, inexpensive-to-visit museum is located across the street from the downtown library and near the Tucson Art Museum, both of which I also visited on the same trip to this part of Tucson. I learned a lot about Tucson history from reading the information displayed and seeing the exhibits.... More

A smaller museum with excellent displays. A great experience that will fill a couple of enjoyable hours of hiding from the sun.

This was a good little history museum, which I like as it is not overwhelming. Took about 1.5 hours to go through. Good stories, exhibits and facts. Worth a look. By the way there is no downtown in Tucson(except for office buildings) and 4th avenue near the university. Otherwise it is dead down there.

This is a great small museum. I recomend it for the whole family. It has enough historical technology to interest children. The information about the capture of Dillinger was much more than I expected. Shows that crime never pays.

I am an Arizona native and never realized that this little gem was right there in the middle of downtown Tucson. The day I visited I met the curator on duty, Jim Bleess and the rest is history, he's a hoot! Knowlegeable about his museum and all things interesting. Between his knowledge of Tucson's History and the displays anyone who... More
