We've visited many missions in NM, AZ and CA, and this is our favorite by far. It is so beautifully preserved and restored, and it makes a beautiful picture in the middle of the desert. It has a fascinating history, and it continues to be...More

San Xavier is a gorgeous thing to see and visit. Whether or not you are religious you won't be disappointed by these beautiful mission buildings. Should be at the top of any photographer's list of places to visit. Mornings are the best light.

The grounds are kept clean. The mission is worth photographing outside and inside. Adjacent to the Mission is the Grotto at Mission San Xavier del Bac at the top of a hill. You have to walk to the top; road access is blocked.

Absolutely beautiful! I loved this place. I'm not of the Catholic faith but became a little emotional when I entered the sanctuary. The love, peace, faith and history are all present as soon as you step inside. Just thinking of every person this mission has...More

San Xavier del Bac is THE iconic Spanish mission in Arizona. 500 years old and still serving it's holy mission. A years (possibly decades) long renovation is mostly complete, so go while there is still a nice contrast of old and renovated. (Nothing is "New"...More

The Southwest is dotted with historic missions, and these Catholic landmarks have had a lasting impact that still lingers to this day. This is a place where the Spanish influence over the indigenous locals is still experienced in a modern world. This is the oldest...More

Reasonably. It is a church so that part is easy. Some of the grounds have gravel walkways. That's more difficult depending on ones infirmity.
