Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fun to watch the sea lion "characters" barking in the harbor; short hike up a rocky island gives a great lookout.

We only stopped at the harbor for a brief visit, but had a great time watching the seals & sea lions swimming around and sunbathing on the platforms.

The crab and deep sea fishing boats have seafood for sale on the dock usually . Super nice view and sidewalks for bikes and roller blades. It’s real pretty here; see the sea lions right there 🦭🦭🦭

It was so much fun watching the sea lions. There were probably 100 laying around any open space. You are suppose to stay 125 feet from the sea lions BUT too many people kept getting close to take a photo. Very new, clean harbor.

This was my first sighting of sea lions in the wild. You can see them from far away if you are on the north side of the harbor, but on the south side of the harbor you get a closer view of them on the floating docks.

We had just recently visited the area and had got to see the Sea Lions from afar. We were wondering what is the best place along the Harbor to see them a bit closer, and if they are shy or friendly with the guests? We would love to see them up close!

The best area to see the Sea Lions is from the sidewalk along the Chart Room restaurant on the south side of the harbor. This is normally as close as you can get to them as they rest on the three groups of docks that are dedicated to their use in the Outer Boat Basin.
Because these are wild animals who hunt for a living, you should not get close to them at all. They range in size from just over a hundred pounds to eight hundred pounds. All the seals are under the protection are protected by the Federal Marine Mammal Protection Act. To quote the NOAA FIsheries website,"NOAA Fisheries Service does not support, condone, approve, or authorize activities that involve closely approaching, interacting or attempting to interacting or attempting to interact with...seals or Sea Lions in the wild. This includes attempting to swim with, pet, touch or elicit a reaction from the animals."
Thank you for your question!

Are the sea lions in the harbor year round? I've never been to the Ocean and want to see some ocean animals.

Good question! The Harbor Seals are here at the District year round but the Sea Lions will come and go. Right now there are many California Sea Lions using the docks we have over by the Chart Room restaurant. Before you come to visit, you can always call us here at the harbor office at 707-464-6174 to see if sea lions are visiting.
