My family of 5 from NY was on vacation in the area. We wanted to hike Stout Grove but this road was closed for construction. We ended up driving to the opposite end of the road and parked at the end and walked in about...More

This road was absolutely the best part of our whole Highway 101 trip. Absolutely cannot miss. Our little wimpy car did great. It is a dirt road, but absolutely passable by mid to small vehicles (no motorhomes, trailers, etc.) Mosquitos were a little heavy, but...More

This is a great scenic route. You can park along the road and hike. We hiked down to the Boy Scout tree and to the falls. The view is great, but the roads are narrow and pothole filled. Drive carefully.

The idea of driving through a near pristine State Forest of old growth redwoods sounded great. We also are not afraid of bad roads, but this road is one lane full of pot holes and very few pull outs. The most unpleasant thing about this...More

And I didn't wet my pants once! OK, I hate both heights and tight spaces. So, I did this anyway. A friend drove her brand new Prius up this road, thank god, 'cause I would never have taken my full-size pick-up on this road. By...More

Yes, it's so worth it to take this road. The hikes are stunning but even the drive is amazing. Truly.

Don't listen to the negative reviews!! This is a spectacular drive!! It does have potholes and narrow pathways, but who cares!!! YOLO RIGHT?!? It's like you are literally in Endor minus the Ewoks!! Pretty sure I saw Sasquatch!!

The guy at the Crescent City Visitor's Center suggested this side trip to get a great view of the Redwoods. The view of these old-growth Redwoods from the road was spectacular. But the unpaved road is terrible, full of deep pot holes, very slow going....More

We traveled this road, to get to Stout Grove. The trees are beautiful, the road narrow. Take your time and enjoy!

Loved the way you are so close to the trees, and it is narrow and winding. Hated all the potholes and how rough on the car. Many places to pull over and hike a bit amongst the beautiful trees, stream, wildlife, and even small wooden...More

There are many paying camp grounds in the area, including several near the harbor. Before we moved to the area we always preferred to use the campground in Jed Smith Park. Depending on when you will come you may need to... More

There are some small parking areas along the way that you could use. Nothing on the road, per se. The road is basically one lane and the shoulder is used so people from the other direction can pass.
