Sad reflection of former glory

We had a 2011 guide book which spoke glowingly of Pua Mau. It needs lots of attention and is now (2016) quite sad. You can see it once was magnificent. I hope the owners can... read more

We had a 2011 guide book which spoke glowingly of Pua Mau. It needs lots of attention and is now (2016) quite sad. You can see it once was magnificent. I hope the owners can successfully sell the property and it can be restored-it is too much for the 2 ladies that run it. Loved the turkeys-our 10 year old... More

A fun place to visit (just TRY to find the trails on the totally unkempt west side!), but sadly they need some groundskeepers and maintenance very badly. I doubt if the ladies that run the place have actually tried to walk the trails marked on the maps in at least the last two years... as they are mostly missing. We... More

After driving the entry road a number of times, I decided to stop and check out the Gardens, which were easy to reach off the main highway (via a paved road). The royal palms at the edge of the property were quite majestic, and the first stop was at the small gift shop (where I purchased my entry ticket). The... More

The place is for sale and it is rundown.. The cost of entry is above the price of the Good Botanical gardens on the eastern part of the island.. On 23 Feb. 2016 entered the garden(?) and less than 45 minutes rushed through the self guided tour.. The mosquitos were so bad, killed over 12 of them with the plastic... More

The history of this place is fascinating (created by one individual and a lot of hard work against the odds) and it is in a very challenging location. There are more beautiful and lush botanical gardens, sure, but this one is really fascinating for the history and location, as well as some really cool artwork throughout the garden (sculptures and... We saw the sign from the road and decided to stop in. There was nobody there and we paid the $13 each to get in. The day was hot and although we had a map the trails were not that well marked and we got turned around on more than one occasion. The flowers are nice but really not all... More

I came on here and read the reviews before visiting pua mau today. I have lived in Waimea most of my life but have never been to pua mau. We have family visiting and decided to take them on a whim. After reading reviews here, I wasn't expecting much to be honest. Price was $13 each (kama'aina and senior, kids... More

This public garden is in a challenging location as water is scarce. This is the desert. Sometimes the winds are extreme. The temperatures tend to hover in the 80s and 90s year round. You will not be experiencing the lush tropical gardens of the east side of the island. There is a large aviary with peacocks. There are many palms.... More

After a wonderful snorkeling trip to Mahukona Beach Park, we drove south a few miles to an oasis near the Kohala Ranch. Pua Mau Place: a fabulous 12 acre rambling garden filled with huge bronze sculptures that make for great photo ops! It was a very hot day so I was grateful for the cold tea in the drinks refrigerator... More
