Although a couple reviews seem to feel this is a walk in the park, it would be dangerous to think of this way. This is a "real hike", not a walk in the park. Elevation gains are significant and enough to cause altitude sickness. Some...More

The trailhead is in a pay area where you should put a $3 in a pay envelope. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead which is great. I didn't do the whole hike, just went up 3 miles and back. Those miles were a...More

Hard to find based on GPS but well worth it. Not hard to hike. Views are great. Not a true hike. More of a strenuous walk.

A great bucket list trail for New Mexico visitors - if you're a local you should have already done it!. An average hiker should be able to do it in 3 to 4 hours, certainly in 5 hours. An altitude gain of about 3600 feet...More

This is a real trail, and by that I mean, it has many obstacles. The trail goes all the way to the top of the Sandia mountains, and is very steep with loose rocks. The novice can climb a short way, and enjoy the views...More

The views of the mountains and the city below are spectacular and you will be immersed in the sights, sounds (and tastes thanks to an abundance of prickly pears) of the southwest. I guess the only reason I didn't give this beautiful trail five stars...More

Ran out of superlatives to use. I hope you will too. Tough hike but so worth it to view the local flora and fauna. Hike is marked fairly well but gets a little iffy in a couple of spots (thanks to bozos who make their...More

Enduring the La Luz Trail is a trial. I recommend at least a half gallon of water per person on the ascent if there is any heat. Also if you are coming from a low lying region the altitude is a challenge. That being said...More

There are 2 choices. You can start at the tram and take a trail 2 miles that connects to the LaLuz then head up from there. Or, you can go to the formal trailhead which is off tramway. Going north on tramway, go past the... More
