Being that I have lived in this area and travel here for work I see the battlefield all the time. If you can speak with a park ranger they can give you great information about the area. The battlefield has more history than some of the major battles of the civil war because it last months as a siege. Great... More

A lot to see and drive regarding the civil war. The Crater Park has an amazing history and is not the only park to see.

The Petersburg Battlefield has a lot to offer. It has lots of markers and informational signs that will interest any history buffs. I generally go to enjoy the scenery and to walk along the many connecting trails. There is a one-way touring road through the main park. You can either drive the route or enjoy a lovely hike or bike... More

The self guided tour is great. If you buy the recording at visitors center you can set you own pace. I run in the battlefield several times a week. I still get the hair raising experience Everytime I'm there. The hard ships, battles and suffering that happened in these woods and ravines are just hard to imagine. The park also... More

This is a pretty large park. The visitor center is fine. I am sure I would have enjoyed it more if spring or fall on a day when I could have walked around a bit more.

There are multiple sites at the battlefield. Each has its own walking trail so you can make a day of it and get in some long walking, or you can take a shorter walk for those less able. The only concern was on the trail near the visitor center there were very precarious stairs for anyone to ascend. It would... More

This was a really neat place to visit. Gorgeous views and neat facts for history buffs and those alike. It was a fun and enjoyable visit. The individuals running the visitor center were very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions that were out of the ordinary for us. I would recommend this visit for anyone who is interested in knowing... More

Every time I visit here, I learn something new. Ranger Webster is a traveling information filled billboard. He makes the battlefield come alive. This is a great place to bring children to learn of the experiences during the Civil War. Visiting the Crater is the highlight of the park.
