A striking, all white building on the water, this art museum was voted one of the best in southern Texas. Although permanent exhibits feature art from the region, the museum is known for its rotating exhibits of fine art work in different mediums.

Not for everyone, but very nice.

The museum isn't as big as it seems outside, and you must really appreciate or study the arts to like it. The current exhibit held plenty of interactive areas that were fun to... read more

As an artist, I make it a point, whenever possible to visit art museums and local art galleries wherever we go. This museum was a huge disappointment. PROS: cool entrance, and a few pieces from major artists CONS: almost everything else. Local art was questionable. Staff was snooty and bordered on rude; not interested in making sure we enjoyed our... More

Good collection, periodic special exhibits, ADA accessible, good views and great fun for all ages. Study planned exhibits beforehand to get max benefit.

We just saw the Dorothy Hood retrospective (sadly it has closed). The curation and hanging of the many, many pieces was pretty world class. Although our first time here, this museum showed their 'art chops' with the Hood show. Excellent. Nice cafe. Many galleries overlook the water--very nice background for art.

At the cul-de-sac of North Shoreline Boulevard was the Art Museum of South Texas. It was easy to find right next door to the American Bank Center Convention Center. Adult admission was $8. The most intriguing exhibits were the Spanish Colonial Gallery and the Dorothy Hood career retrospective. Outdoors was a water garden with a circular reflecting pool with hundreds... More

The museum isn't as big as it seems outside, and you must really appreciate or study the arts to like it. The current exhibit held plenty of interactive areas that were fun to partake in and learn about. There are also areas where children's art is showcased and celebrated, which is wonderful and should be encouraged more.

I have been to this museum a couple of times and they always land it. Almost the entire museum is the Dorothy Hood exhibit. It is always nice to see someone that you have known recognized for their body of work. There are several different mediums including interactive exhibits and it's hard to express how important her work was to... More

The name has been changed to The Art Museum of South Texas and seemed to be in transition when I visited in Jan 2016. I attended Eloquent Objects: Georgia O’Keeffe and Still-Life Art in New Mexico -- the works in this exhibit were stunning. This exhibit also incorporated tablets for interactive and engaging videos, photography, and podcasts. However, some placards... More

We stopped here to get out of the rain and were surprised that it was a highlight of our trip. There are some amazing Chihuly glass pieces and several interesting pieces including a Cindy Sherman original upstairs! I highly recommend it!
