This is a big building with several very excellent but small exhibits - the good news being that it is not overwhelming. Local artists were featured in three galleries. The Otis Redding exhibit was being dismantled. There's a room dedicated to the museum's namesake though Harriet Tubman never came to Macon; plenty of local and national civil rights activists are... I love museums. I have worked in museums. However, perhaps its my own fault for not doing my research, but this place has almost absolutely nothing to do with Harriet Tubman. Once we arrived, we found out to our great disappointment that the man who started the museum happened to be INSPIRED by Tubman, and therefore, named it after her.... More

The museum is in a new location on Cherry Street across from the Baseball museum. The quilts on display are worth the visit in their own right, and the Otis Redding exhibit was a delight. The art in the displays is mostly from a single artist in each, and we hope more is donated in the future to add variety.

This museum is in the other museum that we found on a last minute trip. The Harriet Tubman room was very informative. The African American inventor display was awesome! The museum will continue to develop and we did enjoy the visit.

This museum was not completely what was expected from the web site. There was only a small exhibit about Harriet Tubman while most of the building was centered on other African American people. It would have been interesting to have more about Harriet Tubman's life, from slavery to her later life rather than a simple overview of this remarkable woman.... More

This museum is a must visit if the history of slaves escaping the south resonates with you. The movie is very disturbing and prompted me to read more stories from former slaves. Take your kids to it!

a very interesting place to visit, host was knowledgeable, friendly and courteous...even though there was upstairs rooms, it was kind of small(moving to a larger building across from the sports hall, where the festival was held in a yr) family and i enjoyed it

The Senior members from my Stone Mountain, GA church thoroughly enjoyed the museum, especially the knowledgeable guide. It was easy to understand the relevance of the displays and the importance of Ms. Tubman's sacrifices and well-deserved place in America's history. This type of exhibit makes you think and does not just readily hand everything to the visitors. As always, you... More

Last I heard the ambitious exploits of the former mayor were largely bankrupt and had left the city in the same condition. Several museums, opened near this location, at the cost of bulldozers and who knows what. Now they closed because no one really wanted to pay the price of admission of nothingness. Most of these now are empty shells... More
