We had just completed a long day of cycling so had to be persuaded to go out to these but I am so glad that we took the time to see them! They reminded me of a place I visited in Turkey (and without the...More

If you like a bit of geology this is definitely worth a visit. Stunning cliffs. Towering pinnacles that make you feel thousands of miles from Otago. A 10-15 drive from Omarama, 10 on main roads, then 5 on a gravel road. $5 entrance per car...More

Approx 10km out of Omarama are the Clay Cliffs. Well worth the trip there and the walk up to the Cliffs. The entry to the Clay Cliffs is on private land . There is a NZ$5 per car fee which I presume will be for...More

Well worth the drive in at the end of the day. Paying for a private site does not worry me. Not having at least a porta loo for those aged travelers who might ‘ need to go’ should be addressed Take the gorse out of...More

Please note that my rating is not based on the quality of the Clay Cliffs themselves, but on the deceptive signage that lures tourists to the site: The Clay Cliffs sign on the main road has all the markings of an official site sign (white...More

With hand painted signs and a $5 entry fee per vehicle to drive down a private road, I wasn't really sure what to expect with this (as I didn't research it beforehand). It is certainly worth checking out! The cliffs are very cool to explore...More

This is a good little outing to see unique clay formations. $5 per car and we enjoyed a stretch break. Best to wear closed toed shoes.

The cliffs are spectacular and are only a relatively short drive from Omarama. It is signposted from the main road and is well worth the trip. Part of the route is along a gravel road but that is a fairly straight, is of a reasonable...More

I get easily excited about lots of different things. Yet this place was a complete waste of time. The clifs are bland and done in 10 seconds. Unsealed road over private land. Cost of 5$ .... 80 cars/ day ... 130’000$/year for a 1km unseald...More

I would say allocate an hour. It’s very close to the car park but it’s nice not to rush it. We would have easily spent that long but then we had children who were keen to explore more, so perhaps adults alone wouldn’t stay... More

If you have a 4WD, you can drive up to within 200-400m of the cliffs. It's not really a place for limited mobility as the track is rutted and washed away in places and teh climb into the cliffs is slippery.

I agree with Pggwright. It is privately ownded land, and you are allowed to pass it for a small amount of money. Do you ask where the money goes to when you pay the entrance fee for a museum?
