If you have a spare hour it's well worth taking a detour to see these very striking and strange clay and rock formations. Drive steadily as you have to enter via a gravel, sometimes uneven, road but once there the cliffs are amazing with some...More

What a stunning and quirky free activity. Beautiful on a summer's day with the shadows that the clay cliffs create. The views from top are incredible and overall is a very pleasant walk ♡

This was so much more beautiful than in the photos. It was amazing walking into the cliffs and being surrounded by them. Took about 15 minutes to walk into the cliff area. It is worth the money to pay to get in. We tried hiking...More

If you have an hour to spare, then it's something different to see. Yes the signage could be better at the main road to explain the attraction. But for $5 a car it's a nice walk to see some unusual geology. No facilities and wear...More

There is about 15 minutes drive on an easy gravel road to the car park. From there it is a 10 minute walk to the formations. One track is clearly developed by those busting for the toilet. Disgusting as that is the owners of the...More

We were taken to see the Clay Cliffs in Omarama, Otago. Truly spectacular land formations of silt. They are on private property, but the farmer allows visitors to cross his land to see these amazing cliffs. $5 per car, $20 per van. Inexpensive, well worth...More

Our drive and hike to the Clay Cliffs was a pleasant surprise and a great introduction to New Zealand. Driving through private land on dirt roads, opening and closing cattle gates, payment donation suggested but optional. We had the cliffs to ourselves.

We had just completed a long day of cycling so had to be persuaded to go out to these but I am so glad that we took the time to see them! They reminded me of a place I visited in Turkey (and without the...More

If you like a bit of geology this is definitely worth a visit. Stunning cliffs. Towering pinnacles that make you feel thousands of miles from Otago. A 10-15 drive from Omarama, 10 on main roads, then 5 on a gravel road. $5 entrance per car...More

Approx 10km out of Omarama are the Clay Cliffs. Well worth the trip there and the walk up to the Cliffs. The entry to the Clay Cliffs is on private land . There is a NZ$5 per car fee which I presume will be for...More

As previous reviewers answered, it is a sealed road until the gate and, then, it is an unsealed, gravel road until the Cliffs. Any car has to drive slowly (less than 30 kph) and is suitable for a Motorhome as, at the end... More
