A great walk from the top of the chair lift. The cost was a little expensive at $30 per adult. Although it's free to catch it down. The walk up was a mixture of walking on volcanic rock and snow. But the view at the top was totally worth it. Took about 1.5 to walk up. There are no marked... More

We had a sudden break in the weather that had pinned us down below 1000 mtrs all week so we took the opportunity to visit Mr Ruapehu and go up to the top. Is turned out to be sunny but still very chilly at the top with a very strong gust wind which blew the lifts around. The operator at... More

Knoll Ridge Cafe at the top of the mountain was excellent. Views spectacular, staff all friendly and helpful. Hot chocolate and cakes really good, and the rest of the food looked awesome as well!

We took the summer ski lift to the top and at lunch. It's about a 10 minute ride on two ski lifts. There is still snow at the top that you can play in. Beautiful view of the valley below. You see some waterfalls. Some Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed here. Great views of Mt Doom going up... More

As we visited in March, we did not see any snow so i found it very interesting to see what the consistency of the ski base was. We were going to take teh gondola up to Mt Ruapehu with the intent on doing the trek around Mt Ruapehu, but the clouds closed in quickly and the forecast was for thunder... More

If you want somewhere to ski in the central North Island this is the place to go. A good amount of variable ski runs from the very beginners to the most advanced and for those apri skiers ther is the knoll Ridge Cafe at the top where you can enjoy the views and people watch. A good variety of food... More

It was windy and lots of snow fall making it very adventerous, fun for all sorts of ages..the kids really have fun at the Happy Vally and they have a cafe fully heated and a good supply of food, just in case if you don't want to drive to the top there is transport at a very reasonable cost to... We were there the week you had glorious 16c sunshine all be it quite a lot of snow we found the higher slopes to icy a function of the melting snow freezing over night - The group lessons were ok, not as good as my experience in Europe - however we did enjoy NZ and would give it another go.... We were excited to drive past Whakapapa village and up the mountain. We went down ski lift into happy valley. We were able to hire snow boots and let kids play for the first time in snow!

Well worth the visit Prices were very reasonable for hiring all clothes. Only thing they don't is googles and gloves so best get them before you arrive as they don't have much for little kids. The views are amazing and best think about paying for a second day as it's heaps cheaper then if you don't and decided to go... More
