A wonderful place for a spring visit. Great walks, birdlife and beaches. Will visit again to complete more walks. Stayed at the Council all modes camp. Very basic camp with toilets and drinking water. Nicely sheltered with lots of birdlife around.

This regional park is one of my favourite places. A dreadful road to get to it but the road is currently being upgraded. You can swim at beautiful beaches, walk many tracks for spectacular views, listen to rare birds like bellbirds and stitch birds. See the slow wonderful takahe birds It just a magic place. the parking is pretty congested... More

If you are into birds, and being by the sea - either or both are available here. A very well maintained and completely naturally gorgeous spot.

This park is a piece of paradise and I had the pleasure of visiting here on a beautiful winter's day. If you do not have a lot of time do the eco trail which will not take you much longer than an hour yet will give you a sample of the beautiful New Zealand bush, beach and bird life. There... More

The peninsula offers awesome views, nice walking and biking trails, bird-watching opportunities, great surfing waves, etc. We stayed a night at the campsite (booking needed!) which is very much recommended. In winter time things are relatively quiet and ideal for wandering through nature and along the coast. In summer things get slightly busier here.

Although a bit off the beaten track, this place is incredibly beautiful. It was not busy (us and 3 other people). There is a nice beach (though the water is not very warm) and an interesting bird reserve. Great for a coastal walk and bird watching too.

a lovely place to visit with a nice beach- also good for walks on the land and I like the fact that they are protecting native birds from predators

This place has been my favorite so far. Good hike trails, great surf beach - actually the beach is soooooooo big you can easily have a whole section to yourself. Oh and there are also caves to explore!!! Spectacular views everywhere you turn. Can't wait to go back!!!

One of the nicest beaches in New Zealand - except in high summer when it is really busy. Go at a quiet time and have the whole place to yourself!
