While there really isn't much to do in Mindo, I wouldn't go out of your way to go to this butterfly garden. While there are a lot of butterflies, most of them just hide in the trees and don't actually want to sit on your finger and eat the smushed banana off of it. The butterflies weren't very bright or... Nice way to see lifecycle of these beauties. It allowed to use banana juice to hold them on your finger.

I went to both butterfly places in Mindo and this is the best by far. They gave a great explanation of the process and it was wonderful to see all stages of development, including butterflies that were just out of the cocoon and still drying off. There was so many butterflies and varieties it was beautiful. They were landing on... More

Within walking distance from Mindo town, the Mariposario provides a welcome break from the hippie and backpacker infested cafés and bars. Keep your senses alert, and you may discover a multitude of plants, birds and butterflies already on your walk there. Inside the Mariposario, you are surrounded by thousands of eagerly fluttering butterflies of every imaginable shape and colour. This... More

Much more than we expected. There's many different butterfly species in all their growth stages. It's a great picture opportunity! Some butterflies will even land on you and stay there.

I could have stayed here for hours. I was not able to upload a video to demonstrate what it was like, but you cannot imagine how many butterflies and how many different kinds of butterflies inhabit this space. It was enchanting. Tip: there was one man wearing khakis and the butterflies seemed drawn to them - he was covered! So... More

The grounds here are lovely and you're not cornered into a rigid structure. They give you a brief orientation and then turn you loose in the enclosure. I'm not sure how many species there are, but you are not left wanting more color and photo opportunities. I stayed over an hour. Some folks were there longer and others were in... More
