Angel and Rodrigo, the brothers that maintain this refuge are to be commended for their excellent work. We were able to see a Cock-of-the-Rock lek, several antpittas and many other higher elevation cloud forest birds in just a few hours. The breakfast that is prepared by the spouses of Angel and Rodrigo was unsurpassed. It was a special treat to... More

The claims of seeing secretive birds and Andean Cock-of-the-Rock are all true! The Ecuadorian family that runs the refugio are wonderful hosts and really deliver on their promises. We saw three of the secretive forest species and wonderful looks at the Cock-of-the-Rock. The food, lodging and hospitality are special, as are the feeders and relaxed atmosphere. If you have any... This is perhaps one of the most productive Lodges we stayed at. Angle Paz known all over Ecuador calls birds out the jungle at will...True Bird Whisper!!! The food cooked by family was some of the best we had in Ecuador. I highly recommend tihs lodge and The paz family as a must visit local in Ecuador to get some... More

We chose this attraction to see the early morning display of the male cock-of-the-rock leq. We purchased the entry ticket through our b&b for $35 each to include the leq bird viewing followed by a half day bird watching. The attraction is run by two brothers Angel and Rodriguez in a cloud forest surrounding their farm and they work so... More

Great experience to see a lot of local birds you would never see anywhere else. The guides for the property are able to bring in a lot of different types of birds in a well planned morning. The people are also very knowledgeable on the local birds. Got to take in some great sights, got some great pictures, with a... More

This simple but lovely small lodge is located 30mn away from Mindo on a 25 ha private nature reserve. It was created by 2 brothers working the land and so passionate about birds that they actually “befriended” some very shy auntpittas (which will respond to their calling if you wait patiently and silently). Besides working the land and tending their... More

This place is most famous for the Cock of the Rock lek and for the antpittas, and rightly so. But, there are many more exceptional birds there than that. And, to top it off, the breakfast they served was probably the best meal we had in Ecuador. And of course, some extraordinary cloud forest scenery. Please keep in mind, though,... More

My husband loves photography, so I was so excited to bring him here (as I have been here before) He loved it! Angel and his crew are wonderful guides and did not disappoint us in seeing some of the cloud rainforest's rarer birds. My husband still talks about this trip and loves the photos we got. Highly recommended to any... More

Paz de las Aves Bird Refuge was my first time bird watching. I went at 6am. I saw several birds from the first blind and received good explanations from Angel. Later, we had breakfast there. The empanadas and plantain dumpling were good. We saw many hummingbirds as we ate breakfast.

Paz de las Aves is a great place to visit, not just to see the famous Cock in the Rock at around 6:00 am and the elusive Ant Pittas that apparently only Angel Paz and his family know how to locate, but lots of other birds. We went with our Guide Elfrain Toapanta (from Sabina Tour in Mindo). We saw... More
