The gardens were talked up by the DK guidebook but we were disappointed. The place is dilapidated and really not suitable for casual or self guided visitors. We walked down the only accessible avenue - about a kilometer - reached a cafe and cactus house...More

Unfortunately our visit was all too brief. Our guide was fascinating with a good command of English and many interesting details to add to the basic facts. Discovered that my wife has been poisoning me with too many brazil nuts! Mind you she's been eating...More

Visited the gardens in April and had the pleasure of being there when the bamboo was blooming. The canopy was filled with an audible hum of bees...many many bees. Nothing to worry about and found it very reassuring to know that bees seem to be...More

This garden is 9 miles outside Cienfuegos and at 232 acres it is huge. However, we felt it lacked any signposts (and no map was available either) so you needed a guide to get anything from this visit. We did explore one of the paths...More

Arrived here on a bus provided by my cruise ship. We were there the day Castro's ashes were to drive into town. This meant that everything else was closed. The stroll through the garden of trees was pleasant but warm (very little shade). There were...More

We were fortunate to have a marvelous guide named Hilda who was amazingly knowledgeable. We chatted at length about individual trees, so you have to enjoy this sort of thing, but I believe she would make anything interesting. Definitely hire a guide.

It's wild and not like any other botanical gardens I've seen but it only adds a flavour. Outstanding selection of palms. definitely worth spending couple of hours.

Could be tricky. They do have guides on site but I don't think you can pre- book them.
