The County Museum and Archives provides insights into everyday life from...

The County Museum and Archives provides insights into everyday life from the late eighteenth through the twentieth century and focuses particularly on telling the story of Lennox and Addington County.

The story of the settlement and historical development of the County of Lennox and Addington is highlighted in themed exhibits. A series of monthly programs complement the exhibits and curriculum-based educational programs and extension presentations are offered for school classes.

The Archives holds a significant paper collection documenting the ongoing historical settlement and development of the County from its initial settlement by Loyalist exiles at the end of the 18th century. A modern reading room equipped with computer access ports at the reading room tables and digital reader printers offers researchers a wealth of primary, microfilm and published sources for genealogical research. In addition, finding aids to B/M/D in local newspapers and cemeteries and research files are available.

We were doing family history research and had no idea about the museum and special local historical / cultural exhibits. We need more time to explore the old jail and special features. The building has been carefully restored and is a delight to visit.

I attended an Author's Reading by Maureen Jennings at the Museum on the weekend. It was such a lovely, welcoming space for this event. It was also very suitable, since many of Ms. Jennings books (Murdoch Mysteries, etc) are historical novels. All around, it was a great place for an event.

Fun and friendly little step into the past. Local exhibits were well portrayed, fun and eclectic. Visiting exhibit from the ROM of counterfeits was interactive and showed ancient fakes to present day. Very inexpensive, free parking and interesting. Great way to spend a couple hours.

I visited the archive because I was doing genealogical research. I didn't know what to expect in terms of available sources. The collection and the staff helpfulness exceeded all my expectations. I went in expecting to spend minutes. Instead, my research stretched to several hours. Success!

This is one of the best local museums anywhere. The County of Lennox and Addington takes it history seriously and it shows in the investment they have put into this wonderful facility. The exhibits are well thought out and well displayed. Not just about the local situation but ties to how it would have affected you, even if you are... More

The Archivist, Shelly, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful during our recent visit. She helped us to located the grave sites and cemetaries, that our ancestors now called home. The Museum is chock full of artifacts and information pertaining to Napanee and surrounding areas.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of addressing a small enthusiastic audience re letters written during and immediately after WWI by Cecil and Leslie Frost of Orilla ON, and, later, Lindsay ON. What a pleasure to discover the newly renovated facility, and to be welcomed so warmly by head curator, Jane Foster and her assistant, Joanne Himmelman,... More
