My husband and I are seniors in fairly good health and we really enjoyed getting closer to the sculpture. We saw parents carrying small children. The altitude bothered this NC resident more than the slope or steps.

Definitely an easy trail to do. I would start on the left and work your way around. You won't have to climb as many stairs coming back up. :) We went in the fall so there weren't as many people, but still quite a few...More

My kids learned so much more than I could have taught them by having their own headsets. It was great to see them taking it all in and learning about the history of the presidents and how the stones were created. Highly recommend. The trail...More

Nice trail that is paved. Does have stairs. Get some different views of Rushmore without huge crowds (at least when we were there).

If you're able, take the time to walk the Presidential Trail at Mount Rushmore. There a quite a few stairs, but it's all paved, and the left side is accessible to wheelchairs. You'll get much closer views of the 4 presidents, and an even better...More

Presidents trail is very short but well worth doing. Gets you a little closer and a few more interesting angles. Also got to see the local goats which made for great pictures.

Bring your walking shoes and be prepared to take on the stairs! It's totally worth it and spend some time in the sculptures room and listen to the Rangers talk - informative and gives you an appreciation of the hard work!

The monument itself is quite awesome but the trail adds much to the visit. It was a decent amount of walking, a bit strenuous at points. A lot of interesting views of the monument can be seen, and the history of the construction is available....More

You can buzz through it quickly in 1/2hr or enjoy and read captions and see more special views taking 1 to 1-1/2 hr. '
Clockwise or COUNTER clockwise? Most of the other comments state counter. Also, if you send up where you start, wouldn't it all be the same? Thanks.

Depends on your stamina. I recommend clockwise, but either way works fine. My reasoning is that clockwise takes you to the close in viewing points sooner. And sometimes you will see mountain goats along that section of... More
