Staff are friendly at the visitor center and the tour around the battlefield is self-guided using the map you will have acquired at the visitor center. A lot of photo ops and there is a lot of history to be attained throughout the battle grounds. The tour does use a lot of highly traveled roads, so it will add to... More

Rather unknown, but vital battle in Civil War was fought here. Rather unknown, but interesting park area. Very non-commercial sight were you pretty well are left to do your own touring. The visitor center is interesting and then they give you a map and let you go. A great place to spend a couple of hours and you can see... More

Another vast battlefield that was important during the Civil War. Unlike Gettysburg, Monocacy is not commercialized. A small visitors center has a few souvenirs and displays. Definitely need to drive to the sights. The "Best Farm" was our first stop. Well preserved buildings and grounds. Signs explain everything. Wish we had more time to see more.

This is a well-crafted museum which is worth a visit. The large diorama is the highlight, where you can press a button and hear the story while looking at the topography and watching the lights indicating movement of the troops. Then drive the nearby surrounding countryside to walk around the farms where it all happened. Scenic and a good history... More

I took a self-tour around the property which was quite enjoyable. I started at the visitor center where they have a museum, parking, and a very friendly staff. The locations did not have access inside the buildings but they were still remarkably preserved from the outside. This is a no-cost site.

I ventured out to Monocacy to see a pivotal battlefield during the Civil War. Retracing the steps, getting the lay of the land, and seeing the battlegrounds, brought home years of study. This place was one of the last vestiges of Union resistance, before Lee would have turned to DC. The battle here, slowed the progress, buying time for Union... More

A fascinating walk through history. The visitor's center is very nicely done and upstairs there is a 7-minute diorama that illuminates the battlefields - very worthwhile. You can drive to the surrounding stops and walk the trails of the battlefield and Monocacy River.
