This is a 1-mile round trip to some ruins. I think the other 2 ruin sites I saw on the Chapin Mesa were better, perhaps because of the guided element. There was a small guidebook and a ranger onsite, but he didn’t seem predisposed to...More

Like all of the cliff dwellings, this is amazing and must not be missed. It was mind boggling to learn how people could live in such an environment in the center of a cliff

On our last morning in Mesa Verde National Park we decided to drive out on Wetherill Mesa and see if we were up to touring the Step House. Despite huffing and puffing a bit on the trail down to Step House we were enthralled. Ranger...More

Step House is a self-guided tour that does not require tickets. It's located on Wetherill Mesa, which is a very long curvy road. It's accessed by a circular trail that begins to the left of the parking lot. Where the trail forks, stay to the...More

This is one of the pueblo ruins that you can visit on your own, without a guided tour. There is always a park ranger there to answer questions, which is nice. You can't get in until 9:00 am in the morning, which is later than...More

This was the only ruins we could access without signing up for a tour, which were all sold out. Long twisting drive, but worth the trip. Lead my 9yr old granddaughter with me so wanted her to see as much as possible. About a mile...More
