The history is fascinating and how they abandoned the houses when resources were gone. The today nations state that their ancestors are still there in spirit

We were surprised at the access to the ruin we had at this site. The walk is relatively easy (a mile RT). If you come to the park you owe it to yourself to visit. We were able to linger here more than we could...More

We didn't take the tour because there were no more tickets available but we self toured using the very well done guide and there was a ranger at the site to answer our questions. Semi-challenging 1 mile trek to the site but worth it.

We almost skipped this 1 mile round trip trail to Step House but decided that while we were visiting Wetherill Mesa we would do this. I am so glad we did, the trail is pretty easy, a little stone stepping to get to it and...More

This was a great short walk to a cliff dwelling. There was a Park Ranger there to answer questions but it was nice to get to it on our own.

We loved the short hike to Step House in Wetherill Mesa. This is a free, self-guided tour. There is a hike to get to Step House, along a mostly paved path. We did not have time for the Long House tour, so we opted to...More

You can go down without a ticket. It is a relatively short walk compared to the ticketed tours. We were able. To walk down and see it in about 30 minutes. Be ready for the uphill hike out! Enjoy!

This is a free tour you can do on your own and pretty easy. Make sure to take water! There was someone down there when we arrived so we could ask questions and he pointed out different things for us to look at. If you...More

Anyone who travels to Wetherill Mesa for the Long House tour should take the time for this as well. Free tour that does not require tickets or reservations.

I’m 71 and I can no longer visit Cliff Palace, Long House, or Balcony House. However, Step House is doable if rest breaks are taken. Taking water is a MUST for anyone.
